Segerblom, Gene

Genevieve "Gene" Segerblom contributed in a multitude of ways to her home of more than fifty years--Boulder City, Nevada. She was a third-generation Nevadan and was born in Ruby Valley, Nevada in 1918. Gene and her future husband Clifford moved from Reno where they both had attended the University of Nevada, Reno to Boulder City in 1940. After they came back from Panama in 1948 where Clifford had a photography assignment, she ran a child care center and wrote freelance articles about the Nevada landscape with her husband providing the photographs.

Zenoff, Moritz "Morry", 1910-1996

Moritz "Morry" Zenoff was editor and publisher of Boulder City News and Henderson Home News in Southern Nevada. He also founded and published the Nevada Jewish Chronicle. Born in Amhurst, Wisconsin on June 3, 1910, he is the brother of Nevada Supreme Court Judge David Zenoff. Morry Zenoff moved to Southern Nevada in 1948 and bought the weekly Boulder City News. In 1950, he established the twice-weekly Henderson Home News. During the 1950s he founded a local radio station and a local television station (KSHO Channel 13), both of which he sold by 1960.

Hicks, Dee, 1946-

Dee Hicks was born in Damascus, Arkansas in 1946. She was the tenth of 13 children born to Guy and Augusta Goff. Her father was a Baptist preacher and carpenter by trade, and her mother was a housewife. Hick’s decision to become a nurse became a focal point in her life in the tenth grade. She joined the Future Nurses’ Club and geared her high school classes toward nursing. Later, Hicks went to Oklahoma Baptist University and graduated with a bachelor of science in nursing.

Kishner, Irwin, 1933-2017

Irwin Kishner was born in 1933 in Brighton Beach, New York and lived there until he was 13 years old, when the family relocated to Miami, Florida. Irwin graduated from high school and went on to earn his undergraduate degree from the University of Florida in 1954 and his law degree from the University of Miami in 1958.

Casey, Steven S., 1948-

Steve Casey is the oldest of three children born to Peggy and Walt Casey. Born in Portland, Oregon, Steve arrived in Las Vegas in 1951 as a three-year-old via Glendora, California. His childhood memories are of small-town Las Vegas. He grew up near Tropicana Avenue and Eastern Avenue in a house his parents built by hand. The Casey family lived beyond municipal roads, so Steve worked his newspaper route by horse and occasionally rode his horse to Paradise Elementary School.

Blanchard, Lucius, 1942-

Lucius Blanchard grew up in Ahoskie, North Carolina, and attended the University of North Carolina Medical School at Chapel Hill. After acquiring his medical degree, he joined the military for two years and upon leaving became chief resident for the University of Louisville. While there, he took dermatology training and cancer surgery training in the University of Wisconsin allowing him to specialize in skin cancer surgery.

Ashbaugh, Don, 1898-1961

"Don Ashbaugh served in both World War I and World War II as a correspondent for Stars and Stripes and as editor of an airbase newspaper. And in between he graduated from the University of Southern California in 1927 and worked on newspapers from Manila to Paris, including nine years in Los Angeles, first with the Los Angeles County News and then with the Los Angeles Times.

In 1934 he joined the publicity department of Paramount Pictures. When World War II broke out in 1941, he joined the army.
