Abstract

Oral history interview with Charles Adams (born 1930 in Juliet, Illinois) conducted by Robert Melcer on February 27, 1979 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. The two discuss various topics, including Adams’s move to Southern Nevada, the growth of Las Vegas, the educational system, the growth of the English Department at the university, cultural and recreational activities for locals, raising a family in Las Vegas, and prostitution in Southern Nevada.

Oral history interview with educator Beula Jane Adams (b. 1902) conducted by Maureen Conner on May 11, 1977 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. Born in Smithfield, Nebraska, Adams relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1932. During the interview Adams explores and highlights the role of education in relation to the social development of Nevada. Adams discusses presidential visits, early above ground atomic tests, and her involvement in local politics.

Jackie Abell (b. 1924) discusses her experiences growing up in Virginia City, Reno, and Overton, Nevada. She specifically discusses her experiences growing up on a ranch, railroading, above ground atomic testing, flooding, and wild animals.

Abstract

Oral history interview with Dr. Robert Aalberts conducted by Claytee D. White on November 16, 2006 for the UNLV @ 50 Oral History Project. In this interview Aalberts speaks about how he was encouraged to come to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) in 1991 by a friend who worked there. He described how when he first arrived there was no law school, and that he taught legal business and real estate courses. He became editor in chief of the Real Estate Law Journal in 1992.

Abstract

The UNLV Libraries Collection on the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) Runnin' Rebels (approximately 1982-1991) is comprised of materials commemorating the UNLV Runnin' Rebels men's basketball team, including a gubernatorial proclamation from Governor Richard Bryan, a poster of the Runnin' Rebels' 1982-1983 men's basketball season highlights, a color slide of President George H.W. Bush remarking on the National Collegiate Athletic Association's semi-finalist teams, and a commemorative “UNLV Rebels Final Four 1991” t-shirt.

Abstract

The UNLV Libraries Collection on the UNLV Mascot and Other University Symbols (approximately 1970-2020) is comprised of eleven conceptual drawings of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas logos, proposed university official emblems, and mascots including “Hey Reb!". The collection also includes a costume for the "Hey Reb!" mascot.
