Abstract

Oral history interview with Joanna S. Kishner conducted by Barbara Tabach on January 10, 2017 for the Southern Nevada Jewish Heritage Project. Kishner discusses being born and raised in both the Jewish and secular worlds of Las Vegas, Nevada. She discusses the importance of the Jewish tradition of Tzedakah, and what it was like to work on a Kibbutz in Israel after her freshman year at Claremont McKenna College. Kishner also discusses desegregation of Las Vegas schools.

Shecky Greene oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Shecky Greene conducted by Barbara Tabach on June 5, 2018 for the Southern Nevada Jewish Heritage Project. Greene talks about seeking work in Las Vegas and Reno, Nevada in the 1950s. Greene also discusses how he developed his comedy career following from Jewish people to mainstream, doing accents and making up words. He also talks about his passion for the St. Judes Ranch in Boulder City, Nevada.

Claudine Williams oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Claudine Williams conducted by Joanne Goodwin on November 20, 1997 and November 09, 2005 for the Women's Research Institute of Nevada (WRIN) Las Vegas Women Oral History Project. Goodwin begins the interview by discussing growing up in Shreveport, Louisiana, and how she supported her single mother. She goes on to describe her education and early jobs in restaurants and newsstands in Texas.

Ellen Anderson oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Ellen Anderson conducted by Patricia van Betten on January 28, 2010 for the History of Blue Diamond Village in Nevada Oral History Project. Anderson opens her interview by describing her work assisting with child care in Blue Diamond, Nevada, and collaborating with parents to make kindergarten available in the area. She goes on to talk about the school structure in Blue Diamond and school events she helped execute. The interview ends with Anderson discussing flooding issues in Blue Diamond.

Jane Greenspun Gale oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Jane Greenspun Gale conducted by Barbara Tabach on January 31, 2018 and February 09, 2018 for the Southern Nevada Jewish Heritage Project. Gale recalls attending Las Vegas High School, desegregation of schools, and what is was like growing up in Las Vegas, Nevada in the 1960s. Gale then recalls the anti-war position taken by the Las Vegas Sun, her decision to attend the 1968 Democratic National Convention, and her legal suit against the state of Nevada for the right of eighteen year olds to vote.

Stephen Nasser oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Stephen Nasser conducted by Barbara Tabach on January 17, 2018 for the Southern Nevada Jewish Heritage Project. Nasser discusses being whisked away with his brother from their Hungarian home and sentenced to the Auschwitz concentration camp in Poland at the age of 13. He also talks about moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1993; and being an international speaker, author, and educator on the Holocaust.
