Sabina and Antonio E. Callwood oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Sabina and Antonio E. Callwood conducted by Claytee D. White on October 13, 2014 for the Southern Nevada Jewish Heritage Project. This interview begins with Sabina Callwood's ordeal in the Holocaust in Belgium and her family's various experiences with the persecution. She recalls her adjustment to life after the war and talks about her family's history with Judaism, also giving some insight into Jewish culture, law, traditions, and customs. Antonio Callwood discusses his family genealogy and his career as a musician.

Abstract

Oral history interview with Rochelle Hooks conducted by Rebecca Snetselaar and Binnie Wilkin on April 12, 2016 for the Folklife Program of the Nevada Arts Council and the Oral History Research Center at UNLV Libraries. Hooks begins by talking about who she is and what she does. She explains what storytelling is in the African American community and how she used education to tell them. She describes her experiences with storytelling, the lessons she has learned, and what she appreciates about it.

Oral history interview with Angela Castro conducted by Stefani Evans, Cecilia Winchell, Kristel Peralta, Vanessa Concepcion, and Ayrton Yamaguchi on November 05, 2020 for the Reflections: The Las Vegas Asian American and Pacific Islander Oral History Project. Castro begins the interview by talking about her early life, childhood, what Guam was like, and the history of her parents and grandparents. She describes the difference in public and private education in Guam and compares it to the United States.

Yazmin Beltran oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Yazmin Beltran conducted by Rodrigo Vasquez and Barbara Tabach on February 4, 2019 for the Latinx Voices of Southern Nevada Oral History Project. Beltran discusses her early life in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico and her childhood and upbringing in Mexico. In 2003, at the age of eighteen, she and her mother joined the rest of her family in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Agnes and Emory Lockette oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Agnes and Emory Lockette conducted by Claytee D. White on March 11, 2004 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, Agnes and Emory discuss their early lives and their experience living in Boulder City, Nevada since the early 1950s. Emory talks about his education as an engineer, his employment with the United States Bureau of Reclamation, and race relations in Boulder City at the time. Agnes recalls her career in education and teaching at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Olmedo Hoyos oral history interviews

Abstract

Oral history interviews with Olmedo Hoyos conducted by Marcela Rodriguez-Campo on October 29, 2018 and November 9, 2018 for the Latinx Voices of Southern Nevada Oral History Project. Hoyos talks about his childhood, family, and work life in Bogota, Colombia. He talks about his struggles as a young child, his community, and poverty. He talks about Colombian culture and traditions and how he included that in his restaurants. Hoyos then explains the problems and corruption that was happening in Colombia and the Revolutionary Movement of Laborers (MOIR).

Flamingo Hilton Photograph Collection

Abstract

The Flamingo Hilton Photograph Collection (1980-1991) contains photographic prints and slides of the Flamingo Hotel and later the Flamingo Hilton property in Las Vegas, Nevada. Images depict the exterior, swimming pool, and restaurant from approximately 1947 and interiors of the Third Tower rooms from the 1990s. The collection also contains two illustrations by Rissman and Rissman Associates, Ltd. of Flamingo properties designed for Laughlin and Reno, Nevada.

Southern Nevada Governance Web Archive

Abstract

The Southern Nevada Governance Web Archive is comprised of archived websites captured from 2016 to 2017 that are representative of local government agencies in Southern Nevada. Cities represented in the collection include Boulder City, Henderson, Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Mesquite, and Pahrump. The collection also includes websites for regional agencies and authorities such as the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada, the Las Vegas Valley Water District, and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.
