Margo Mansergh Papers (MS-01048)

Abstract

The Margo Mansergh Papers (approximately 1920-2010) document the life of former showgirl and dancer Margaret "Margo" Mansergh Tomaszewski. Materials include photographs of Margo modeling, backstage at various shows, portraits, and personal family photographs as well as programs from her international career performing in the Lido de Paris and Pigalle Nightclub in London, as well as a number of shows in Las Vegas, Nevada, such as Vive Les Girls, Casino de Paris, Minsky's Burlesque, and Lido de Paris at the Stardust. The collection contains materials from Mansergh's modeling career, including photographs, book covers, and images of her as an extra in films. Digital images from the closing Stardust performance and an event for Miss Bluebell are also found in the collection.

The Margo Mansergh Papers (approximately 1920-2010) document the life of former showgirl and dancer Margaret "Margo" Mansergh Tomaszewski. Materials include photographs of Margo modeling, backstage at various shows, portraits, and personal family photographs as well as; programs from her international career performing in the Lido de Paris and Pigalle Nightclub in London, as well as a number of shows in Las Vegas, Nevada, such as Vive Les Girls, Casino de Paris, Minsky's Burlesque, and Lido de Paris at the Stardust. The collection also contains advertisements and ephemera from Pigalle and Lido de Paris, and a contract with Miss Bluebell (of the Bluebell Girls) for her work with the Lido de Paris in the 1950s. Photographs of Mansergh's entertainment career include notable figures such as Donn Arden, Miss Bluebell, and Frederic Apcar. The collection also contains materials from Mansergh's modeling career, including photographs, book covers, and images of her as an extra in films. Digital images from the closing Stardust performance and an event for Miss Bluebell are also found in the collection. The collection also contains personal family photographs and a scrapbook documenting Mansergh's early years participating in beauty "parades" in Blackpool, England.

Biographical / Historical Note

Margaret "Margo" Mansergh Tomaszweski was born on September 3, 1927 in Blackpool, England. She participated in early beauty competitions in England before moving into dancing and modeling. She was part of a touring company of the Lido de Paris in the mid 1950s, working in London, Paris, and South America. Other notable jobs included the Pigalle Nightclub in London, England. She moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in the 1960s to work in Frederic Apcar's Vive Les Girls, Minsky's Burlesque, and the Lido de Paris at the Stardust Hotel. After she left the dance world, she worked as a model and as a saleswoman at Neiman Marcus. In June 1995, she married former dancer Joseph Tomaszewski (Joey Thomas) of the Debonairs, whom she had first met in 1955 when they were both dancing as part of the touring show Una Noche en el Lido de Paris in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Margo Tomaszewski passed away in Las Vegas, Nevada on September 21, 2020.
