Scope and Contents Note

The Lee and Thomas Beam Music Center Architectural Records (1998-1999) contain architectural drawing sets for the Lee and Thomas Beam Music Center's design and construction. Located on the University of Nevada, Las Vegas campus, the Lee and Thomas Beam Music Center provides professional and liberal arts education to students seeking a career in the study and creation of music. The school enrolls more than 400 music majors and attracts students throughout America and internationally.

These drawings were created from computer-aided drafting programs and printed as blueline print copies and inkjet copies on translucent bond paper. Types of sheets include civil, landscape, architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical drawings. TJ Krob (electrical engineering), Dunham Associates (mechanical and plumbing engineering), Bennett & Jimenez, Inc. (structural engineering), and JW Zunino (landscape architect) provided consulting work for drawings pertaining to their respective professions.

Biographical / Historical Note

The Lee and Thomas Beam Music Center (BMC) is the newest building in the School of Music, located at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. The building was completed in the spring of 2001 by Holmes Sabatini Associates Architects. It contains a recording studio, the Music Technology Lab, a rehearsal room for band and orchestra, a chorus rehearsal room, two chamber music rehearsal rooms, five faculty studios, and the 300-seat Dr. Arturo Rando-Grillot Recital Hall. The BMC also contains the Music Library that houses scores, recorded materials, and current reference resources for students and researchers.
