Abstract
The Sonny Schwartz Recordings and Papers (1928-1998) documents the career of New Jersey journalist and radio personality Sonny Schwartz. Materials include cassette tapes of Schwartz's radio program, Dateline Atlantic City, and his interviews with musicians, comedians, and other entertainers. The collection also contains an assortment of radio programming featuring performers like Frank Sinatra and Bill Cosby. Also included are Schwartz's columns from the Press of Atlantic City, a autobiographical narrative written by baseball player Johnny Bench, and photographs of Schwartz with interviewees and family.

The Sonny Schwartz Recordings and Papers (1928-1998) document the career of New Jersey journalist and radio personality Sonny Schwartz. Materials include assorted radio and musical programming, early Dateline Atlantic City cassette tapes, interviews, and musical performances. The majority of the collection consists of cassette tapes of the Dateline Atlantic City radio show from 1990 to 1997. The collection also includes Schwartz's columns, show notes, photographs, video tapes of some Dateline Atlantic City interviews, and an autobiographical narrative written by Johnny Bench.

Biographical / Historical Note
Samuel "Sonny" Schwartz (1933-1998) worked as a journalist and radio personality in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Born in Atlantic City, Schwartz was hired out of high school in 1951 to work for the Press of Atlantic City. By 1953, he had become a reporter and authored two weekly columns. He worked for the paper for 37 years before leaving to host a radio show called Dateline Atlantic City, which he hosted from 1990 to 1997.

Materials were processed by Special Collections staff in 2001. In 2014, as part of a legacy finding aid conversion project, Lindsay Oden revised and enhanced the collection description to bring it into compliance with current professional standards. Subsequently Lindsay Oden entered the data into ArchivesSpace. In 2019, as part of an archival backlog elimination project, Melise Leech rehoused and arranged the materials and revised the collection description to bring it into compliance with current professional standards.
