Abstract
The Loretta Bowman Collection of Clark County Clerk Records (1912-1997) contain documents collected by Clark County Clerk Loretta Bowman during her time in office. Materials include court proceedings, signed agreements and contracts, appointments to public offices and related correspondence, denials of cases involving battery on police officers, affidavits for birth certificates, and criminal peace bonds. The majority of the materials are oaths of office and the related surety bonds for government officials.

Biographical / Historical Note
Loretta Bowman was born in Logandale, Nevada on February 10, 1919. She lived there and worked for her family as a store clerk for many years. Bowman later served as the elected Clark County Clerk in Las Vegas, Nevada from 1965-1999. She started as the deputy county clerk in 1947, and was appointed to the unexpired county clerk term of Helen Scott Reed before running and being elected for her first full term in 1966. During her time in office, she won reelection every four years, created new systems to handle increasing work loads, and computerized the government office. After her retirement in 1999, Bowman married James Charles Hunt, and they remained together until his death in 2007. Loretta Bowman died on May 15, 2015.
