On Friday, May 14th Sabbath Services will be dedicated to the teachers of our religious school. Teachers and Aides will be honored as our way of saying "thanks" for a job well done. Those of you who have children in the school or merely hear about it through reputation realize that our Religious School is of major importance to our Temple for there can be nothing more significant than instilling a love of Judaism in our students. We are fortunate to have an especially dedicated staff and they deserve all of our thanks. Our religious school has grown dramatically over the past few years. This is due in no small measure to the quality of our staff, but it is also due to the remarkable leadership of Jeanne Schomaker. Jeanne has worked diligently these past three years to bring new ideas and a creative staff to our school. As many of you know, Jeanne will be stepping down as Principal at the end of May, and therefore on May 14th we will also being saying a special "thank you" to President's Message Spring is definitely upon us, and with spring come graduations, confirmations, and more weddings than usual. Year-round, we recognize birthdays, anniversaries, Bar and Bat Mitzvahs; but springtime is a time for renewal. Celebrate all of these mitzvahs by purchasing a plaque on our "Chai" and all of us benefit. Another very important fund raiser is upon us - the Goods and Services Auction. Please Plan to attend on May 8, 1993. I promise you a good time as there are goods for every member of the family and prices for every pocket book. It is always a fun and social event. A special welcome to Monty Willey, our new and very hardworking administrator. He is getting used to our usual office chaos (our huge Seder was his welcome) and will soon put his special mark on our office organization. We wish Robyn Galbraith the best in her future endeavors. Another new face on our horizon is Jackie Fleekop, the new school principal. With new New people comes change and we are very excited to experience the growth and refinement of our congregation. We wish Jeanne every good fortune and thank her for the fine job she did Continued, next page. her for all of her hard work and dedication. On Friday evening, May 21st, at 7:30 our Congregation will celebrate the graduation of our 1993 Confirmation class. This will mark a special time in the lives of each of these Confirmands, but it is also a very important time in the life of our Congregation. Each one of these students has made it a point to continue beyond their Bar or Bat Mitzvah. In doing so they have made a personal statement that their Judaism is not an means to a particular end, but a heritage that will be with them throughout their lives. While Bar/Bat Mitzvah is in many ways an individual experience, Confirmation Continued, next page. Jolie Lynn Alhadeff to become a Bat Mitzvah My name is Jolie Lynn Alhadeff and I am in the 7th grade at Greenspun Jr. High. I like doing lots of things! Some of my favorite are reading, playing the flute, basketball, being with my friends and having fun. On Friday, May 28th, I will become a Bat Mitzvah. I would really love it if you would join me and my family at 7:30 p.m. for this special moment in my life. Rabbi's Message, continued: represents the affirmation of the individual within the context of the Jewish People. Finally, on Sunday May 23rd from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Paradise Park (see bulletin for map, it is located on McLeod and Tropicana), the religious school will be hosting its annual Maccabia games. We have outgrown the Temple courtyard and have therefore moved this years picnic to Paradise Park and invite all grades (k-9th) to participate with their families in what should prove to be a wonderful morning of fun and excitement. This year's Maccabbia will be run differently than in past years so that each grade level will be paired only with children of similar age. As you can see, our school has grown, and so too have our programs. Please make every effort to attend these special services and activities to let our students and teachers know that Jewish education is something we can all be proud of. B'shalom, Rabbi Akselrad Other Students Celebrating Their B'nai Mitzvah this Month are: Stacey Drucker Jesse Gale President's Message, continued: with the school. Let me make a few comments about last month's activities. Special thanks to Phyllis Mark for her organization of the Passover Seder. She did a superb job as usual. I hope everyone had a wonderful Passover. We have received great reviews and our Seder will probably be bigger next year. We had a record 325 in attendance and our Rabbi served up a wonderful Seder to complement the good food of the Desert Inn. Your Temple family is planning a very active May with a wide variety of diverse activities. Read your bulletin carefully and find something that interests you. Some of the social activities planned include the Brotherhood 2nd Annual Spring Fling Putting Tournament on May 1st. This is a true laugh and giggle event since everyone is encouraged to participate. Another "Stompin' Good Time" is planned for May 22, 1993, when square and line dancing returns to CNT. So mark your calendars: May 1st Spring Fling Putting Tournament May 8th Goods and Services Auction May 22nd Square Dance May 23rd The Annual CNT Membership Meeting and Elections. I would appreciate everyone coming out to support the slate by casting your vote in person. Your participation enriches you and all of us - if you have ideas for other activities, be sure to let us know. Also, let me mention our advertisers in the bulletin: We need to patronize them and let them know that we appreciate their support. I hope to see you at all of the May activities. Have a good month!
