We have remem?bered the past and contemplated the future. Thoughts have turned to our loved ones with whom we share our lives, as well as those who have gained immortality by our remembrances of them. It is especially appropriate at this season of remembrance to think of all of those people who have touched our lives at Congregation Ner Tamid. We think of ourselves as an extended family, caring for each other, as well as sharing our joys and sorrows. The past year has been one of great success and increased growth at our temple. Our members have worked hard to fulfill many of our dreams. To Rabbi Akselrad, the Ner Tamid Executive Director Ruth Fite and the office staff, our volunteers, our religious school principal and teachers, the youth group leaders, and each member who has strengthened us by their support, generosity, and presence, I thank you for a job well-done. We begin the New Year in a spirit of en?thusiasm and joy, welcoming many new mem?bers to our ever-growing family. Become in?volved, share your time and talents, and we will all be enriched. May this New Year be one of happiness, good health, and personal fulfillment. Shalom, Eileen YAHRZEITS October 12 Max J. You find yourself a little bit lost, a little bit disoriented because you can?t follow the Hebrew. You think to yourself, ?If only I could read the Hebrew, I would be so proud of myself!? But learning to read Hebrew is hard, right? Wrong! If you have always wanted to learn to read Hebrew, now is your chance. I will be teaching the National Hebrew Literacy Marathon October 7th from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. If you give me one day of your life, I will teach you the skills to read Hebrew. Honest! This program has been offered throughout the country and over 10,000 individuals have benefited from it. It is based on the assumption that most Jewish adults already have a vocabulary of some 180 Hebrew words which have become a part of our everyday language, i.e.: Bar Mitzvah, mezzu- zah, magen David, Ner Tamid, etc. By devising a curriculum using these familiar words, you learn all of the Hebrew letters and achieve an immediate sense of satisfaction. For those of you who have more time, there is a follow up course which can also be taken independently. It will be a 10 week Hebrew course taught Sunday evenings by Moshe Baradon. This class will start October 14th and will take place at 7:00 p.m. Now is the time for new year?s resolutions. Make this a year where you gain some important Jewish knowledge. It is estimated that over 50% of the Jewish community is Hebraically illiterate. It is my hope that this program will serve to change these statistics for our Congregation. If successful, I will offer it again. Interested? Give the office a call or look in this bulletin for more information. See you in class! FIRST GRADE CONSECRATION On Friday, October 12th, the Religious School will hold the First Grade Consecration. This is a very special evening for this is the night that the First Grade will become consecrated into the Temple.
