Blue Ridge Insurance Company Shelby, North Carolina ?√φ FFICE DF THE PRESIDENT November 28, 1957 Sister Felicita, Superintendent Rose de Lima Hospital Henderson Nevada Dear Sister Felicita, I have Just "written" A1 Freeman a letter and after reviewing the results I believe it will be easier on you if I "type" this# I'm at the office with three of my four boys this Thanksgiving morning* The selfish motive in all this is to give Mary a chance to prepare dinner. The maid didn't show Hi Seriously, l8m glad for this opportunity or break in the routine buisihess day to write you. I talked with Boston last night , and yesterday, Wednesday, Mother was much better after a day of tests on Monday which left her in foul condition Tuesday. She could only- eat a crumb of bread Sunday when she awoke at 11 p.m. She has not been sleeping so they did not wake her when the bread arrived at iip.m. She apparant ly took a little the two following days but yesterday, my sister infnjma^m&??s she was able to take considerable.and^keep it^.down. ___ - - "jpj?║(f||5gB ^ _ The doctor's have not diagnosed the trouble yet beyond the fact that it is the liver. Tests have been "inconclusive." After the tests Monday Mother had to be fed through the nose as well as intravenously. The doctor's changed their instructions from "feed her when she wants to eat"(which was seldom, to "feed her hourly." Above all we are most grateful for the prayers of the members of your order, again, as I told Al, the good has been done and regardless of the outcome, Mother and all connected with this event have been much impressed with the goodness of so many strangers. I shouldn't say strangers ,particularly as far as you and the Sisters are concerned, for Mother's sister was a Carmelite nun who died forty years ago and whose prayers in my first two years of life, we believe, are or were very instrumm*' bv??vmtal in pulling me through a very serious illness. Also Sister Eleanora, after whom my oldest sister was named was instrumental in choosing my name. Further Mother's || first cousin, Bishop James Walsh was founder of Maryknoll. gQ you can see with that background and Mother's natural devoutness, she has been tremendously grateful for your prayers. We pray it is God's will that she pull through. But this whole experience has been most beneficial spiritually to us immediately concerned and to those on the fringe. Thanks on this Thanksgiving morning. I8m a rotten correspondent but will try to keep you informed. How true it is that the prayers of th ligious are tfke "powerhouse" io-oner xs most impressed vxzn une interest shown by all of you at the hospi t al?╟ú'SHd^^?╜, ' by Mr. Freeman. She is so impressed that she is, as I told Al, making a super human effort to eat the bread where she has not t made the effort to eat other food because of the painful after effects from vomiting. ... / of the Church. Sincerely and gratefully
