Witfr reference to your request,th&t I write First State Bank, for statment o f account and for return o f companys paid checks, w ill say that I sh all do so as soon as I get time. In the matter o f requesting said bank to send you the c e r tific a te s o f deposit to the companys account, w ill say,that I am a l i t t l e mixed upon that point. The companys by-laws reads,that the secretary shall"keep proper books o f record and o f account o f the companys business", they also say " the treasurer shall be custodian o f the companys funds, pay them out on warrants signed by the Pres, and secretary,and shall give proper bond" e tc. But since the Direetors in approving and authorising the lease have provided that the funds should be deposited in First State Bank in the companys name,and have authorised said bank to pay them out,only upon checks signed by y ou rself,u n till' farther notice,and have not instructed said bank to c e r t ify ,o r receipt for such funds to any one, the bank naturaliey sends the ce rtifica te s,su ch as they are,to the secretary o f the company. In my opin ion ,&&&&,in view o f a ll the circumstances, I do not have the right to instruct the bank otherwise, unlees authorised by the board o f d irectors so to do. Then to , i f I , as secretary, am to keep account o f the companys business, I must have notice o f the money comming to it,e ith e r from the bank,or from yourself as treasurer,in the event any such money is paiid d irect to you. I therefore suggest that we le t the matter stand as i t is u n t ill the baard o f directors order otherwise. In the maan time, I sh all forward to you the c e r tific a te s o f deposit a fte r reoeving and \ booking them . I f i t is decided not to do so,I do not know o f any other business,at this time,that requires the oompany to go to the expence o f a meeting. The work o f in sta llin g the washing plant at the m ill is going forward slowley, and they are shipping some three or four cars o f salt per week. It is quite evident they are loosin g upon a ll they have shipped up to this time,that is their expences are higher than their receipts from salt sales, Whether or not they are keeping up from individual subscriptions or from the prodeeds o f salt sales I do not know. It is quite probable,however, they w ill make a go o f i t , as the salt i 8 now quite con sid era b ly improved in quality,and they probabley w ill get into larger sales a fter a l i t t l e , Have seen Mr Sucker only a minute or two since he came in this time. The state i t s e l f is not in c°ndition fin an cilay to make such subscription, But i t is probable, when the p ossible consumption is known,that i t w ill,b y a special session o f it s leg isla tu re, authorise a sindicate formed fo r the purpose to make such subscription and give such bond. Of course, the authorisation ’Will be such,that any individual,or groupe/^of individuals can make such subscription and guarantee same by such bond* Samples o f the magnesite have been taken by these experts for test purposes, to see whether or not there is in existanoe any process that w ill produce the metal from it without f ir s t elim inating the lime* I f such should prove to be the case, and i t could be financed, the production o f 200 tons o f the metal - per 2^ hours,requireing some 1,000 tons o f the ore per day,jwrefe -profdtt^tion would require aproximatley $0,000 horse power from the plant,and would yelld in p r o fits to the operator 'aproximaley f l ,000,00 per day. Therefore i f you are desirous o f making some money , why,just get in and subscribe for that 50,000 horse power. It is not improbable that the investigation w ill turn up a purchaser at some kinde o f a p rice . Dear Madam:- Let night I received n otice from the hank that the July Salt Royalty in the sum o f $500*00 had been paid to the credit o f Virgin giver Salt Company in said bank.Credit your accounts accordingly. They now have the salt washing planj: ready to rum,so the boys working there t e l l me, They say ,however, that i t is not very efective,ow ing to the fa ct,th a t the dryer is o f such thin iron that i t w ill not stand enough fire(w ithout burning out) ,io dry the s a lt. It w ill,how ever, not be a very heavy expense to supply a more e ffe c tiv e dryer. Some o f the boys have been laying o f f from work fo r a day or two, but have now been n o tifie d to report tomorrow for work,because they have, p^dsrs for a lo t o f sa lt that must be f i l l e d immediatley. Whether or not they w ill sprinkle and dry i t , or ship i t without washing or wetting I do not know. They t e ll me such salt a$ they did wash and supplyed heat enough to to dry is very much improved by the process. Have just returned from Arizona Strip and doing copper assessment work.
