Ober, Harold "Hal", 1926-2007

Harold "Hal" Ober (1926-2007) was a Las Vegas, Nevada homebuilder responsible for nearly 30 local residential developments, including the Desert Shores master-planned community in northwest Las Vegas. Born May 6, 1926 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Ober moved to Las Vegas with his wife D’Vorre in 1977. He started off as a division president for U.S. Home Corp and then became president of R.A. Homes in 1980. He founded his own development company, Ober Homes, in the early 1990s. Ober was also a member and an officer of the board of directors of the Southern Nevada Home Builders Association, and was elected as its president in 1985 and again in 1991.

Ober served as president of the Jewish Federation of Las Vegas in 1986 and from 1988 to 1990. He was a longtime member of the Nate Mack Lodge of B'nai B'rith and was named as its Distinguished Man of the Year in 1989. His other leadership and community roles included serving as a co-chairman of the Nevada Association for the Handicapped construction committee, chairman of St. Jude's Ranch for Children, director of Continental National Bank, and member of the Clark County School District's bond oversight committee. The D'Vorre & Hal Ober Elementary School is named in honor of the couple's community involvement and their dedication to the well-being of children.
