Nevada politician James H. Bilbray was born May 19, 1938 in Las Vegas, Nevada. After graduating from Las Vegas High School, he attended the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), where he served as student body president. He then attended American University where he earned his B.A. and J.D. Bilbray served in the United States Army and the Nevada National Guard. He returned to Southern Nevada and worked as an attorney before being elected deputy district attorney for Clark County in 1965. He served on the Nevada Board of Regents between 1968 and 1972. He served in the Nevada Senate between 1981 and 1985 and chaired the Senate Finance Committee. He was elected to the US House of Representatives in 1986 and served in Congress for four terms. After losing his bid for re-election in 1994, Bilbray entered private legal practice in Las Vegas. He remains active in the community.
