Edmund Griffith held several positions in the early Las Vegas, Nevada community, such as including president of the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce, state assemblyman, Nevada state senator, and school board member. Edward "E. W." Griffith was born in 1853 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Griffith immigrated to Las Vegas, Nevada and worked for Union Pacific Railroad and operated several businesses including the Kyle Canyon Resort on Mt. Charleston and the Majestic Theatre. Griffith also constructed the first grammar school in Las Vegas. He later married Fletcher Midgley and had a son named Robert. Edmund W. Griffith passed away on October 31, 1932 at the age of 79.
