Abstract

The Alice Pearson Papers (1956-2000) contain the personal papers of Alice Pearson and the administrative records of the Mesquite Club, the first service organization founded in Las Vegas, Nevada. The collection includes the club’s administrative records, service projects and social events, as well as its membership in the General Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC). Materials within the collection include meeting minutes, correspondence, committee reports, newsletters, notebooks, and scrapbooks.

They also remember Heidi?s father, Jay Sarno, and the impact he had on the local gaming industry. There is also discussion of the founding of Congregation Ner Tamid, the role of Jewish women?s philanthropy within the community, as well as the establishment of The Meadows School.

Benjamin C. Buckles oral history interviews

Abstract

Oral history interviews with Benjamin Buckles conducted by Irene Rostine on October 11 and 23, 1995 for the Women's Research Institute of Nevada (WRIN). In his interviews, Buckles discusses visiting Las Vegas, Nevada in the 1940s and eventually settling in Henderson, Nevada in 1950. He describes working for Rheem Manufacturing Company at the Basic Magnesium Incorporated (BMI) industrial complex. Buckles discusses the presence of a union at the manufacturing plant and describes working conditions and benefits. Buckles also talks about the security of the complex and the crime rates of the surrounding area. Lastly, he describes his recreational interests and his wife.
