Description

Oral history interview with José Luis Gutiérrez conducted by Maribel Estrada Calderón and Barbara Tabach on October 1, 2018 for the Latinx Voices of Southern Nevada Oral History Project. Also present during this interview is José's close friend Sergio Salgado, who was interviewed separately for the Latinx Voices project in 2018. José discusses his early life growing up in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, and his migration to Tijuana and then Santa Barbara, California as a teenager. He talks about his restaurant employment history both in California and in Las Vegas, including his time working at the Jolly Parrot, the Dunes Hotel and Casino, and his own eatery: Tortilleria Los Arcos. Subjects discussed include: Tortilleria Los Arcos; Club Social Mexicano.

Arnold Shaw Papers

Abstract

The Arnold Shaw papers (1927-2006) contain correspondence, newspaper articles, journal entries, promotional materials, and photographs. Shaw was a prolific writer and his papers also include articles, short stories, plays, and biographies written by him. In addition there are proofreader's notes, research material, and scratch copies for each of his fourteen books. The collection also contains papers from the various vocal groups and companies under contract with Shaw's music company, Mansion Music. Sheet music, some of which was written and produced by Shaw, assorted printed materials, and sound reels are also included.

Abstract

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas Lied Library Architectural Records (1965-2010) are comprised of drawings and documents created by the American architecture firms of Welles Pugsley Architects and Leo A Daly Architects, as well as their associated consultants, engineers, and other professional collaborators. This collection documents the design and construction of Lied Library at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). The materials feature both hand-drawn and computer generated architectural drawings, ranging from preliminary sketches and artist renderings to schematic drawings and construction documents.

Chabad of Southern Nevada

Chabad of Southern Nevada was established in 1990 by Rabbi Shea Harlig and his wife Dina Harlig. It is an outpost of the worldwide Chabad-Lubavitch organization that provides social services and educational programs for members of the Jewish community. Chabad of Southern Nevada is headquartered in Las Vegas, Nevada and has six affiliated centers: Chabad of Summerlin, Chabad of Green Valley, Chabad of East-Or Bamidbar, Chabad of Southwest, Chabad Hebrew Center, and Chabad Student Services at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
