Oral history interview with Sherwin Garside conducted by David Anderson on March 25, 1976 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. Garside discusses his father’s newspaper business and his personal knowledge of the early mining that took place in different parts of Nevada. He also talks about living in the town of Tonopah, Nevada, the Native Americans who lived in the area, and his experiences from living in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Nancy Houssels co-founded the Nevada Dance Theatre in 1972 with Vassili Sulich.

The Cork Proctor Papers document the career of comedian Cork Proctor from 1942 to 2012. The papers include photographs, programs, advertisements, and newspaper articles that illustrate both the longevity and influence of one of Nevada's most famous comedians. From 1972 to 2012, in both Reno and Las Vegas, Proctor consistently worked as a stand-up comedian, writer, and roaster.

Catherine Compton Scrapbook Pages

Abstract

The Catherine Compton Scrapbook Pages (1945) contain pages from Catherine Compton's scrapbook documenting the period of time she lived in Las Vegas, Nevada from April to July 1945 with her husband Ross when he attended the B-29 Flexible Gunnery School as part of his training assignments with the U.S. Army Air Corps. The materials include a postcard and dinner menu from the Hotel Last Frontier where the Comptons celebrated their first anniversary dinner. The scrapbook pages include postcards for locations the couple visited around Southern Nevada including Fremont Street, the Union Depot, and the Boulder Dam. Also included is a newspaper clipping and ribbon from the annual Helldorado Days Parade and two photograph reproductions of the Comptons.
