Biographical / Historical Note
The Las Vegas Contemporary Arts Center (CAC) was founded as the Contemporary Arts Collective in 1989 by artists, students, and instructors from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) Department of Fine Arts. The CAC primarily provided exhibition space for emerging and established artists in Las Vegas, Nevada. The CAC also gave educational lectures and workshops about contemporary art, hosted international exhibitions, and held annual juried exhibitions that awarded prizes to artists who submitted their work for consideration. The CAC held seven exhibitions annually that displayed local, national, and international artists' works. In March of 2014, after struggling to find a permanent location and a significant source of funding, the board of directors voted to dissolve the CAC. The CAC's final show was the 25th Annual Juried Show in April of 2014.
