The Dan Lovil Audiovisual Collection (approximately 1970-2000) contains examples of commercial production work created by Dan Lovil who was a video tape operator in the televisions production industry in Las Vegas, Nevada. The collection includes examples of Lovil's work on commercials for local businesses such as Christensen Jewelers and Discount Furniture Mart as well as directing and editing Las Vegas City Council, County Commission meetings.
The UNLV Athletics Programs and Memorabilia Collection (1974-2002) is comprised of University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) athletics publications, team yearbooks, and game day programs for UNLV football and men's basketball teams. The majority of the collection documents the UNLV Runnin' Rebels basketball team during the 1980s and 1990s. Other materials include Big West Conference programs and UNLV athletics memorabilia such as a pom-pom, football foundation member stadium seat cushion, plastic megaphone, and mug.
The Jack Kent Tillar Papers (approximately 1890-2010) are comprised of magic-related books, periodicals, pamphlets, ephemera, and artifacts from the estate of Jack Kent Tillar who was a composer and music editor for the film and television industry. Materials also include a small amount of Tillar's personal papers. Tillar was an amateur mentalist magician and wrote numerous books and articles on the subject of telepathy and mentalism including The Assumption Swindle, Trio: Three Complete Acts for the Mentalist, and Solo: The Walk-Around Mentalist.
Oral history interview with Jane Overy conducted by Claytee D. White on August 17 and December 20, 2023 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, Overy discusses her museum work, early life, and many civic projects she has participated in over the years. Overy grew up in Kansas, where she spent time playing pool (billards) and spending time outdoors. After high school, she joined the United States Air Force and served in Alaska where there were two women, each with a private guard. Additionally, she worked as a newspaper reporter and as an entertainer who sang around the world. Overy served in the military for four years. In 1981, she moved to Nevada and desert climate for the improvement of her overall health. Over the years, her work and civic projects connected her with Senator Harry Reid, the Walking Box Ranch, the Searchlight Nugget Casino, and many other experiences.
Oral history interview with Jill DeStefano conducted by Stefani Evans on January 19, 2024 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, DeStefano describes growing up in Long Beach, California and moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 2006 with her husband. DeStefano became interested in helping protect the 13,000 acres of land near her home of Aliente, and became a member of the founding board of "Protectors of Tule Springs." In this interview, she talks about the role the recession had on their work; engaging the public in the project; the stakeholders with whom they negotiated; the tours they conducted; and the legislation passed through Title 30 of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) in December of 2014 creating the Tule Springs Fossil Beds National Monument.
Oral history interview with Christy and Crislove Igeleke conducted by Claytee D. White on November 10, 2023 for the African Americans in Las Vegas: a Collaborative Oral History Project. In this interview, Christy Igeleke, mother of Crislove, describes her childhood in Nigeria where she owned a sewing school. Her daughter, Crislove, was born in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1990 and now serves as the Deputy City Attorney for the City of Las Vegas.
The McNamee Family Papers (approximately 1898-2000) are comprised of family papers of early Nevada settlers, Frank (Francis) Raphael McNamee and Effie Alice Webster McNamee. It contains original family photographs and some documents such as newspaper clippings, award certificates, handwritten deeds, and correspondence about Effie and Frank McNamee Sr., and their eight children, including Frank Jr. and Leo McNamee. There are large folders of photocopied genealogy printouts from Ancestry.com regarding Frank and Effie McNamee.
Oral history interview with Jocelyn "Joyce" Egbalic conducted by Stefani Evans for the Reflections: the Las Vegas Asian American and Pacific Islander Oral History Project. Born and raised in Luzon, Philippines, Egbalic recalls her parents' careers as an architectural engineer and draftsman for a municipality. After she graduated high school, the family joined relatives in Minnesota. Joyce eventually relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada in 2003. In this interview, Egbalic discusses her Culinary Union steward duties, job security, medical benefits, and her work as a cocktail server at the Rio versus at the non-union Hard Rock. In this interview, Patty Todd describes her childhood on the Westside of Las Vegas, and remembers a friendly community. She attended the Westside School and graduated from Rancho High School. Patty met her husband, Harry, at a Military Appreciation Ball on October 15, 1966. Harry Todd grew up in Pennsylvania and moved to Las Vegas, Nevada when he joined the Air Force. The two share memories of living on the Westside and growing up with the city in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. Patty shares about her family's long history in Las Vegas, and at one point an earlier generation homesteaded property at the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Flamingo where the Bellagio stands today.
