Description

Bill Diamond, professional river runner, portrays Major John Wesley Powell in an exhibit at the Powell Commemorative Ceremony at Lake Powell. Exhibit includes a boat that is representative of the type used by Powell in his expeditions. The sign positioned by the boat reads: "Early day boating through the canyons of the Colorado utilized heavy wooden boats like Powell's and like this one which was used between 1938 & 1942."

Las Vegas Rotary Club also presented a $3,000 check to Mrs. Edwards for the Elbert Edwards Scholarship Fund at Boulder Humphrey, Judy Edwards, Keith Edwards, Mary Edwards, Rachel Davis, Mahlon Edwards, Carole Edwards, Donna Edwards Davis, Jeffrey Edwards, Jennifer Edwards." Mary Edwards is fifth from left.

Dedication of the AEC Depository Library at Nevada Southern climaxed a long effort by (left to right) Consulting Engineer Levis Fussell, Jr., and Mr. O. R. Placak, Officer-in-Charge of the Public Health Service's Southwestern Radiological Laboratory, pictured with Mr. James E. Reeves, Manager of the AEC's Nevada Operations Office, Dean W. D. Carlson of Nevada Southern and President A. C. Grant of the Board of Regents for the University of Nevada. Messrs. Fussell and Placak were first to propose establishment of the library at Nevada Southern and headed the effort to obtain it. USAEC Nevada Operations Office; 2753 South Highland Drive; September 26, 1963."

Mrs. Cahlan (U. of N. 1895) and her son John Cahlan, being brought to the commencement exercise as honored guests by Mr. Jack de Fevre, Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds. Mr. de Fevre was responsible to setting up all physical facilities for the Nevada Southern first Commencement without any previous exercise for a guide, and very well done. W.D.C."
