Description

Handwritten description provided on back of image: "Nevada Hatch, family trad. That she was first Anglo-Saxon child born in Nevada." Included with the image is a copy of a typed letter which reads: "Miss Merle Irwin, Vista del Monte, #118 3775 Modoc Road Santa Barbara, California 93105. Jan. 10, 1978. University of Nevada, Library, Las Vegas. My dear Friends: A year ago my brother and I visited and talked to a lovely lady to whom I promised a photograph of a distant cousin in Michigan, named NEVADA HATCH, because it was said she was the first Anglo-Saxon child born in Nevada. I have now secured it from my brother, Warren Irwin, at 9457 Las Vegas Blvd., Paradise Spa #4, have had a copy made, and herewith send you the original. Sincerely, Merle Irwin." Abstract

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas Office of Admissions Records (approximately 1954-1999) contain early enrollment and admission records for Nevada Southern University (NSU), later the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). The collection contains correspondence between NSU and other universities regarding transcripts and course credits for potential students, admissions reports, and newspaper clippings of the University's early years. Booklets, flyers, posters, and photographic film and slides used by the University to recruit students are also in the collection.

Atlas page numbers at top: 58-59. Arizona became a territory in 1863, and Nevada became a state on October 31, 1864, so this map was either published in 1863 or in 1864 before the end of October. Original publisher: Johnson and Ward.

Abstract

The Jewish Nevada Records document the organization's philanthropic activities in Las Vegas, Nevada from 1978 to 2018. The majority of the collection represents the organization's activities under the name the Jewish Federation of Las Vegas. The collection includes administrative files, annual reports, marketing materials, donation records, video recordings of interviews and events, and audio recordings of board meetings. The collection also includes photographic prints and negatives of events hosted by Jewish Nevada.
