1951 marked the beginning of Nevada Southern. Although there were only two instructors teaching
classes in the evenings at the Las Vegas High School, the hope for the future was great. As the years progressed
in number, so did the teaching staff and the students.
In 1955 the land on which to build an institution of higher learning was donated to Nevada Southern
by Estelle and Howard Wilbourn. In the spring of 1955 Las Vegas saw a major drive by students of the
local high schools, Nevada Southern students, and educators throughout the Las Vegas area in an attempt
to raise money to help erect Nevada Southern's first building.
Classes, in the meantime, were held wherever space could be found — in churches, at the city recreation
center, and at the local high schools. The library, faculty offices, and the office staff was all
quartered at the Las Vegas High School Auditorium.
The hope in the students' hearts became a reality June 1, 1957, when the college moved into their
    first building.
As the registration rose, there was only one more thing to do and this was to construct another building.
Even now this is being fulfilled for ground was broken May 1 1, 1958 for Nevada Southern's second
    building.

    LIBRARY
Cataloguing, alphabetizing, checking, rechecking, and answering questions
are all professionally handled by the capable library staff. The
student library assistants see that books are reshelved, fines are collected,
and overdue cards are sent out. Each takes a glowing pride in
the new facilities which the library now has and which were not
previously offered at their location in the Las Vegas High School
    Auditorium.

    FACULTY
. . . men of many letters. So very true of the members of the Nevada
Southern faculty who are ready to impart to willing students their vast
knowledge and experiences. They are just as capable at counseling and
guiding the graduate as the undergraduate with his vocational difficulties.
Taking an active interest in student extracurricular activities, many act
as advisors to aid the students if difficulties arise.
