From the Harvey's Hotel and Casino Postcard Collection (PH-00367) -- The historically famous Lincoln County Courthouse in Pioche, Nevada. Inscription with image says, "...originally contracted for $26,400 in 1871, final cost was $1,000,000.00, final payment being made in 1938. Pioche ranked among top Boom Towns in Nevada. Was too busy making history to edit it. Sixty-eight died with their boots on before the first natural death."

Description

The view of the small town of Searchlight, Nevada. Formed in 1897, Searchlight is an old boomtown that was made popular when George Frederick Colton discovered gold at the location where the town is now built. Unnamed buildings cluster together in the center of the postcard while rocky terrain decorated with small shrubs and mines surround the city's outskirts. Transcribed onto the bottom of the postcard: "Searchlight, Nevada; Duplex Mine In Foreground." The Frasher's Foto logo is also printed onto the bottom right corner.

Abstract

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) University Parking and Traffic Control Committee Records (1969-1992) contain meeting minutes, correspondence, reports, parking regulations, and newsletters. The UNLV Parking and Traffic Control Committee reviewed various policies and regulations for UNLV parking facilities and made recommendations for parking lot and traffic flow changes, as well as parking fines and permit fees.

Abstract

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) Dean of Libraries Records (approximately 1994-2017) consists mainly of subject, budget, committee, and research files from Patricia Iannuzzi who served as Dean of UNLV Libraries from 2005 to 2017. The records in this collection cover topics including the Libraries' budgets, planning for the Health Sciences Library, and general space planning. The collection also includes Ianuzzi's research files on information literacy and general education. Also included in this collection are working files and correspondence from Myoung-ja Kwon who previously served as Associate Dean and Interim Dean of UNLV Libraries before retiring from UNLV in 2001.

Home Means Nevada: Folklife in the Silver State oral history interviews

Abstract

The interviews in this original radio series were produced by the Folk Arts Program of the Nevada Arts Council (then Nevada State Council on the Arts) in 1986, in partnership with KUNR (Reno), KNPR (Las Vegas) and KOLO (Reno), and with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts and the State of Nevada. Scripting, editing, photography, and production were by folklorist Blanton Owen. Narration was by Deb Spring, KOLO Radio (Reno). The series consists of thirteen short segments documenting aspects of the traditional life and crafts of Nevada residents. A supplemental printed program provides additional information about each interviewee.
