Keny Stewart often sits in his backyard and hears the train whistle. In that moment he thinks about what Las Vegas must have been like in the 1940s—a moment made more meaningful by living in historic John S. Park Neighborhood. He enjoys his place, a place he has called home for 20 years. He was there for the beginning of the neighborhood "renaissance". Keny moved from California to Las Vegas in 1984 to work as an entertainer. One day a few years later he accidentally drove through John S. Park neighborhood, admired the architecture of the homes and the nostalgic feeling. Soon he was a homeowner, restoring his investment, a labor of love. At the time he worked nights on the Strip and restored his house day. Along the way he made a career change to educator/librarian for grade school level. Barbara Givens was born in California, grew up in Reno, Nevada, and moved to Las Vegas in 1952 with her family when she was 14 years old. Her father ran a small construction business here in Vegas until he retired about 15 years ago. Her brother Steve and his children live in Vegas also. Barbara graduated from Las Vegas High School and enrolled in the first matriculated teacher's program at the Southern Regional Division of the University of Nevada at Las Vegas (now known as UNLV). Barbara was involved in organizing the first "Rebel Yell", school dances in Las Vegas, and other collegiate activities in Reno. In her senior year, she returned to Las Vegas High to complete her student teaching. After graduation, Barbara was assigned to Rancho High School to teach biology. She left after a year and a half because she had married and was expecting her first child. At that point in time, Clark County School District did not allow pregnant women to remain in the classroom. Fifteen years later she returned to the classroom, this time at Chaparral High. Concurrently, Barbara entered the Master's in Education program at UNLV, and graduated in 1980. Barbara has always loved to travel and has experienced many wonderful trips to exotic places around the world. In retirement, she assists with special events at Hamm Hall and Judy Bailey Theater, goes on-line to offer her services as a biology tutor to high school students, and continues to plan exciting trips abroad. She also indulges in her favorite hobby - attending Star Trek conventions and collecting Star Trek memorabilia.

Glick, Allen

Allen R. Glick is the former owner and chief executive of the Las Vegas, Nevada gaming company Argent Corporation (Allen R. Glick Enterprises). During the 1970s, Glick and his company were an alleged front for mobsters in Chicago, Illinois; Kansas City, Missouri; and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Previously a real estate lawyer and businessman in San Diego, California, Glick was first issued a Nevada gaming license in 1974. He purchased the Stardust and Fremont hotels with a $62.7 million loan from the Teamster Pension Fund and also owned the Hacienda and Marina casinos.

Bertha Gresh resided in Nelson, Nevada for over 60 years, and was its longest living resident at the time she passed away at age 92 in 1975.

Hirsch, Charles J., 1912-2002

Accountant Charles J. Hirsch was born in New York City, New York on November 8, 1912. After graduating from New York's Pace University in 1938, with a degree in Accounting and Business Administration, he traveled to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he was employed by the Apache Hotel on Fremont Street. His stay in Las Vegas was interrupted once by a five-year tour of duty with the Air Force Contract Audit Division, where he attained the rank of captain before his release in 1946.

Marchese, Patricia, 1943-

Patricia Marchese worked for the city of Las Vegas and Clark County, Nevada for 30 years. She created numerous art and cultural programs for places like the Civic Symphony, Charleston Heights Arts Center, Rainbow Company Theatre, along with consulting work for the Allied Arts Council.

Marchese was born July 12, 1943 and grew up in Johnston, Pennsylvania. Marchese was raised on a farm surrounded by relatives. Marchese and her husband, Lamar, graduated from the University of South Florida and relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1972.
