Dixon, Brock, 1918-2015

Brock Dixon was an acting president who held the office from 1978 to 1979 and was succeeded by Leonard "Pat" Goodall at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). Dixon was born on December 18, 1918 in Huron, South Dakota and began his collegiate studies in 1933 at the age of fifteen. After completing his master's and doctoral degree in 1942, Dixon was comissioned as an officer in the United States Navy and participated in the Battle of Iwo Jima in World War II. After the end of World War II, Dixon moved to Oregon and became an administrator for Portland State University and later, Pacific University. In 1971, Dixon moved to Las Vegas, Nevada and became dean of administrative services and vice president of administration at University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). Brock Dixon passed away on June 13, 2015 at the age of 96 in Australia, where he lived after serving as acting president at UNLV.
