Description
Hotel Nevada after the addition of a balcony. Transcribed from photo sleeve: "by Florence Lee Jones ... March, 1969. Early Las Vegas History. The Hotel Nevada, at the Southeast corner of Main and Fremont Streets, is the oldest continuous hotel business in Las Vegas, although it has been known as Sal Sagev (Las Vegas spelled backward) since 1928. The hostelry started as a tent in 1905, but the late John Miller soon erected a permanent building, shown above, which provided the most luxurious accommodations and the best food in Las Vegas for many years. In the 1930's the Sal Sagev Hotel had one of the three elevators in town. A private dining room was a popular place for private parties for the elite of the town. The hotel is now owned and operated by Miller's son, Abe Miller, and his daughter, Mrs. Sherman E. Nugent. The Golden Gate Club now occupies much of the first floor of the building. On the North side of the building is a sign "Bank of Southern Nevada", which was the second bank established in Las Vegas. (The other was the First State Bank.) Started by John F. Miller, Ed Von Tobel, Sr., Will Beckley, Attorney Frank Stevens, and Hal D. Buzick, the Bank of Southern Nevada was an important factor in Southern Nevada's economy. During the 1930's and the Depression, the federal government issued restrictive orders on bank operations. The reaction of the independent Las Vegans was 'No guy in Washington is going to tell us how to run our bank.' ... So they paid off all the depositors and closed the bank. The Rhoads & Rhoads General Machine Works (extreme right) was one of the first automobile agencies in town - the start of Community Chevrolet."

Sadie and Hampton George Papers

Abstract
The Sadie and Hampton George Papers (1874-1948) consist primarily of the incoming and outgoing correspondence of Sadie Kiel George and her husband, Hampton George, regarding proposed land and mineral rights sales. The collection also includes some personal correspondence, and two of the most significant letters in the collection deal with the deaths of brothers William and Edward Kiel, Sadie's uncles, who were found dead at the Kiel Ranch in October 1900. Also included in the collection are receipts, cancelled checks, tax notices, mining claims, and land deeds.

The C. C. (Clio Cline) Mobley Photograph Collection (approximately 1911 to 1917) consists of sixteen black-and-white photographic prints with corresponding photographic negatives. The images depict the Las Vegas, Nevada Ranch while the Mobley family leased it from the Union Pacific Railroad during the period. The photographs depict the home, swimming pool, the Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort, and orchards and streams on the property.

The William Hillman Shockley Photograph Collection (1875-1925, 1951) contains black-and-white photographs documenting mining operations at the Mount Diablo Mine and Millworks in Candelaria, Nevada. It also includes photographs of nearby operations including the Northern Belle Mine and the Princess Mill. The collection contains photographs of Shockley, his son, William Bradford Shockley, as an infant, as well as images of Shockley’s brothers, Walter A. Shockley and George Shockley.

Arthur G. Grant Photograph Collection consists of 120, 35 mm color photographic slides taken in the mid 1950s in and around Las Vegas, Nevada. Content includes images from Arthur G. Grant's home life, the Fortune Club business on Fremont Street, general downtown, Helldorado Parade, and a Mount Charleston picnic. The collection also contains images of Lake Mead boat races including an appearance by Donald Campbell and his water speed world record-setting jet powered boat Bluebird. The collection has been digitized.

The Tonopah, Nevada Mining Town Photograph Album (approximately 1908) consists of twenty-two photographs in a leather-bound album. The photographs depict businesses, townspeople, street scenes, and mining operations in Tonopah, Nevada and the surrounding areas of Goldfield, Nevada and Mina, Nevada. Also included are photographs of a fire on May 12, 1908 that destroyed a block of commercial buildings in Tonopah, which were taken by local photographer E. W. Smith., and views of the downtown area both before and after the fire.

The Linda Miller Papers (2008 to 2023) document Dr. Linda Miller's historic preservation work in Las Vegas, Nevada including her work portraying early Las Vegas resident, Helen J. Stewart, at historical events across Southern Nevada. The collection documents Miller's efforts to erect a statue of Helen Stewart at the Las Vegas, Nevada Old Mormon Fort, as well as her contributions to the programming for Sarah Winnemucca Day in 2018. The collection documents Miller's appearances as Helen J. Stewart through photographs, pamphlets, video recordings, digital files, and curriculum used for her outreach work. The collection also documents Dr. Miller's activities as chair for the Nevada State Society chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR).

Abstract
The Kenneth Giles Professional Papers (1964-2001) contain documents and visual material related to Giles's time as an Environmental Radiation Monitor for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) at the Nevada Test Site (NTS). Photographic slides, film, and digital images depict the general flora and fauna throughout the area surrounding the NTS. Visual materials also document specific mule deer and steer surveillance and testing at the EPA Farm located within the NTS. The collection also contains environmental reports written or collected by Giles, government documents, pamphlets, and newspaper clippings related to environmental monitoring and Giles's work at NTS. A small portion of the collection documents his brief role providing monitoring support at Three Mile Island in Pennsylvania in 1979. Note: Some images may be of a graphic or disturbing nature and may not be suitable for some users. Photographs may contain scenes of animal testing or other objectionable imagery.

The Lake-Eglington Family Photograph Collection contains photographs of the Lake-Eglington Family in and around Las Vegas, Nevada from 1900 to 1976. The materials include photographs of early Las Vegas resident Olive Lake-Eglington and her family shortly after they moved to Las Vegas in 1904, as well as her eventual husband Earle Eglington after he moved to Las Vegas in 1911. The materials also include photographs of Native American artifacts, schools in Clark County, Nevada, artesian wells, the Hoover (Boulder) Dam, the Colorado River, Mt. Charleston, the Mormon Fort, the Stewart (Kiel) Ranch, the Las Vegas Ranch, and many early residents of Las Vegas.
