Sandstone Ranch Collection

Abstract

The Sandstone Ranch Collection is comprised of bank statements, letters, correspondence, and photographs relating to the Wilson family from 1907 to 1941. The collection includes information about the financial aspect of the Wilson Ranch, later renamed the Sandstone Ranch, located outside of Las Vegas, Nevada. The collection also includes information about the personal lives of those working on the including contracts about grazing cattle, selling cattle, and appropriation of water.

Sign details: The building was constructed in 1977 for this Skating Center. This skating center opened during the prime skating rink roller age of the 70's/80's. The Crystal Palace does have a second location in North Las Vegas on Rancho built in 1981 which is ran by Larry & Judy Sandord though still under Tim Poole's company. Crystal Palace holds birthday parties, themed nights and open skate for all ages.
Sign condition: 4- has had some weathering over the ages.

Sign-specific description: On Boulder Hwy they have a roadside sign that has a yellow steel base with a yellow curved sign box that is lined with yellow incandescent light bulbs. Inside this box is a back lit plastic sign that states "Crystal Palace" in a retro 1970's/80's double lined font. Within the two words there is a red circle that showcases a navy blue pair of roller skates and then states "USA" in white letters within the red circle with two white stars on either side of it. On both sides of the building there are thin red steel words "Crystal Palace Skating Center" that is down lit by LED lights.

Charley Henchis Papers

Abstract

The Charley Henchis Papers (approximately 1945-1987) document the career of international cabaret show producer Charley Henchis and the shows he produced in Las Vegas, Nevada and Beirut, Lebanon. Materials include Henchis' business files which includes correspondence, files on specialty acts, photographs, and press about Henchis. Shows represented in this collection includes La Parisienne which was performed at the Dunes Hotel in Las Vegas in 1960 before moving to Casino du Liban in Beirut. Other shows represented in this collection that were produced for Casino du Liban includes Mais Oui, S'il Vous Plait, Flash!, and Hello!. Additional materials include press and publicity files, music arrangements and scores, recordings of musical numbers used for the productions, and film footage of shows and production reels. Also included is film footage of the Charley Ballet, Henchis' dance troupe who were featured in his shows.

Tobias Mattstedt Menu Collection

Abstract

The Tobias Mattstedt Menu Collection (approximately 1990-2009) is comprised of menus documenting the restaurant industry in Las Vegas, Nevada, the United States, and internationally. The menus include restaurants located in Las Vegas casinos, most notably the MGM Grand, located in Las Vegas. Included in the MGM Grand menus are restaurants such as the Pearl, Tabu Ultra Lounge, and the Grand Wok and Sushi Bar. The collection also documents menus collected by Mattstedt that are not affiliated with the MGM Corporation. These include menus located in the United States, especially Hawaii, including menus from the restaurants Olio!, Nob Hill, Diego's, and Sea Blue. The collection also includes international menus with a focus on Asian countries. The material provides insight into menu design, food culture, and the Las Vegas service industry.
