Oral history interview with Dr. Joseph Rojas conducted by Suzanne Lubritz on February 25, 1980 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. In this interview, Rojas describes his career as a gynecologist in Las Vegas, Nevada after being stationed at Nellis Air Force Base as chief of OBGYN during his time enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. Parks discusses her career working at UNLV as the Director of Admissions and Records, and how the university has changed over time. The Erle A. Taylor Photograph Collection (1959-1977) consists of photographic prints, slides, and negatives pertaining primarily to aviation in Nevada. The collection includes images of the United States Air Force Thunderbirds, McCarran International Airport, vintage airplanes, air shows, and assorted events and people, including Richard M. Nixon, Gerald Ford, Betty Ford, and Jack Nicklaus. Erle A. Taylor served as the aviation director for Clark County, Nevada throughout the 1970s.
The records contain financial and budgetary information, correspondence, reports, University of Nevada, Las Vegas campus buildings and grounds planning, registrar and academic affairs information and memoranda created by the UNLV Office of the Vice President for Development and University Relations from 1967 to 1983. The records include information about the design and development of the Thomas and Mack Center. Budgets include administrative salaries, biennial budgets, and estimative budgets.
Collection is comprised of posters collected by the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) Special Collections and Archives from 1974 to 2010. The collection primarily includes posters about events and exhibits hosted by UNLV Special Collections and Archives. Also included are posters for other UNLV events including: theatrical events, sporting events, colloquiums, choral productions, and events where UNLV was a partner.
The Jean Olen Papers (1994-2008) document Olen's career as a taxicab driver in Las Vegas, Nevada. Materials include Olen's personal taxicab driver's permit, medical examiner certificate, and other placards found in taxicabs regarding common questions, such as tipping, no smoking, and airport fees. Also included are newspaper clippings about taxicab drivers in Las Vegas, Nevada and four issues of Trip Sheet, a local magazine for taxicab, limousine, trolley, and shuttle drivers, which features letters to the editor written by Olen.
Oral history interview with Alex de Castroverde conducted by Monserrath Hernandez on April 17, 2019 for the Latinx Voices of Southern Nevada Oral History Project. In this interview, De Castroverde discusses his family's background and his parent's emigration story from Cuba to the United States. He talks about growing up in Reno, Nevada, his father becoming a lawyer, and attending the University of Nevada, Reno. De Castroverde remembers the establishment of De Castroverde Law Group, the significance his father had on the Hispanic community in Las Vegas, Nevada, and taking over operations of the law firm with his brother. Lastly, De Castroverde talks about his involvement with Cristo Rey St. Viator College Preparatory High School, the Guinn Center, and the Las Vegas Business Academy.
