Description

Patrick Kiser interviews Patricia Deverell (b. 1929) in her home about her experiences while growing up in Nevada after arriving in 1937. Patricia discusses the various population and climate changes that she has witnessed, as well as major events such as the above-ground atomic testing. Patricia also mentions her occupation in the gaming industry and describes some of those changes over time.

Wilner, Linda C.

Linda Wilner was born July 15, 1944 in New York. She moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1970 to be closer to her family after divorcing her first husband, leaving her a single mother of two children. She met her husband, Martin at a Jewish Singles event. They were married on December 22, 1974 and adopted a son, Robert. She was a real estate agent in one of the most robust housing markets in the country at the time.

At their ranch in Paradise Valley, where they owned the 120 acres now comprising the Sierra Vista Ranchos, exclusive residential area, they used the facilities at hand to form an 'old swimming hole.' This interview conducted by Cork Proctor and is part of the Arnold Shaw Collection at UNLV University Libraries Special Collections. It has been added to the Southern Nevada Jewish Heritage Project with Mr. Morris?s permission. In this conversation, Morris reflects upon his career, how he got started as a musician, and the wide range of influential artists he has worked with over the years, as a drummer, musical director and talent manager. Stories include playing with Louis Prima, live and on his albums; serving as Elvis? musical director; filling in for Frank Sinatra?s drummer; entertaining Howard Hughes; and playing at President John F. Kennedy?s inauguration.
