Bob Paluzzi Panoramic Photographs

Abstract

The Bob Paluzzi Panoramic Photographs (1978-2005) contain the work of photographer Robert "Bob" Paluzzi. Paluzzi began documenting local events and locations in Las Vegas, Nevada during the mid-1970s and continued photographing locations across the United States and internationally until 2005. The collection contains original photographic negatives (black-and-white and color) and photographic prints that depict sporting events and places throughout Las Vegas and the surrounding region. Additional locations include cities across the United States, and international locations including Paris, France; Brussels, Belgium; and London, England. A number of the images are from major sporting events that took place outside Las Vegas, such as Super Bowls XIV to XXXIX and Major League Baseball World Series games.

Abstract

Oral history interview with John Klai II conducted by Stefani Evans and Claytee D. White on August 15, 2016 for the Building Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, Klai discusses his upbringing in North Dakota. He recalls attending the University of North Dakota and transferring to North Dakota State University to study architecture. Klai talks about moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in the late 1970s, and his employment at Marnell Corrao Associates. Klai describes founding an architecture firm, Klai Juba Wald Architects + Interiors in 1995, and talks about the firms involvement with the architecture program at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). Lastly, Klai discusses sponsoring a lecture series at UNLV, and awarding scholarships to UNLV architecture students.

Abstract

The Las Vegas Senior Tripsters Records (1984-2020) are comprised of organizational records for the Las Vegas Senior Tripsters, an organization based in Las Vegas, Nevada that sponsored leisure travel for senior citizens. The collection includes articles of incorporation, bylaws, and board meeting agendas and minutes. The majority of the collection documents the Las Vegas Senior Tripsters working files used for trip planning, managing memberships, budgets, and the board president's records. The files in this collection are entirely digital.

Shauna Hughes oral history interviews

Abstract

Oral history interviews with Shauna Hughes conducted by Stefani Evans and Claytee D. White on August 31, 2016 and October 11, 2016 for the Building Las Vegas Oral History Project. In the first interview, Hughes discusses her early life in New York and later moving to Ohio. She talks about attending John Carroll University, moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1982, and being a founding member of the Southern Nevada Association of Women Attorneys. Hughes recalls being appointed Henderson City Attorney, the early development of Green Valley, and the rapid growth of that area. Hughes then describes the Pacific Engineering and Production Company of Nevada (PEPCON) explosion in 1988. In the second interview, Hughes discusses her work as Henderson City Attorney. She describes collaborating with elected city officials, the development of the Galleria Mall, and the establishment of Nevada State College (NSC). Lastly, Hughes talks about community support for new infrastructure in Henderson.

Abstract

The Alan Cummings Research Files (1974-2004) are comprised of research files compiled by Cummings, an elementary school teacher for the Clark County School District (CCSD) in Southern Nevada. The files represent Cummings's work to persuade the Teacher's Health Trust, the employee benefit plan for the school district, to consider domestic partnership benefits for CCSD educators and administrators. Materials include personal correspondence, newspaper clippings, magazines, and court cases.

Joyce Moore Papers

Abstract

The Joyce Moore Papers (1958-2019) contain documents relevant to the life and career of Joyce Moore, a longtime resident of Las Vegas, Nevada. The collection contains Rancho High School yearbooks, and awards and grants from when Moore was a student at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in the early 1990s. Materials include research papers, event posters, photographs, and business cards related to Moore's work as an archivist in the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Special Collections and Archives. The collection also contains photocopied newspapers and handwritten notes related to research done on the Las Vegas sewage system and local hospitals for Moore's academic papers.

The Cheryl Leonard Collection of Helldorado Parade Photographs (1955-1956) is comprised of black and white photographs of Helldorado Parade floats on Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas, Nevada. The parade is part of the Helldorado Days, an annual festival sponsored by the Elks Lodge No. 1468.

The Eric A. Jamieson Photographs contain photographic slides of the Western United States' Intermountain region from 1955 to 1983. The bulk of the images are of the region's physical and urban landscapes and include Las Vegas, Nevada, the Las Vegas Strip and Fremont Street, Nevada mining towns, Red Rock Canyon, Mount Charleston, Valley of Fire, Lake Mead, and Death Valley.

Todd Avery Lenahan oral history interview

Abstract

Oral history interview with Todd Avery Lenahan conducted by Stefani Evans on November 29, 2016 for the Building Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, Lenahan discusses his early life as a military child, and repeatedly relocating to several states. He talks about moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1999, and founding his architecture firm, TAL Studio. Lenahan recalls doing the interior design for the home of Steve Wynn, designing show rooms in the Encore at Wynn Las Vegas, and making design accomodations for visually impaired individuals. Later, he discusses the issue of architecture firms outside of Las Vegas building communities in the city. Lastly, Lenahan talks about the future of Las Vegas infrastructure development.

Abstract

The Las Vegas Founders Club Records (1983-2013) consist mainly of photographic prints of players, general operations, and events surrounding golf tournaments in Las Vegas, Nevada. The tournaments include the Invensys Classic, Las Vegas Senior Classic, men's and women's Collegiate Championships, and the Las Vegas Invitational. Materials also include media press reports, newspaper and press clippings, and scrapbooks created by the Founders Club. The collection also contains digital photographs from various tournaments in Las Vegas.
