Abstract

The Las Vegas Thoroughbred Racing Association Stock Certificates (1951) consist of Las Vegas Thoroughbred Racing Association (LVTRA) shareholder stock certificates and associated correspondence. The stock certificates certify that Miguel G. Jimenez in Los Angeles, California and Vilhelm V. Christensen of Lynwood, California own shares of LVTRA. The LVTRA, organized in 1950 to build a racetrack in Las Vegas, Nevada, was financially unsuccessful and became the subject of a bankruptcy proceeding.

Abstract

The Merle Frehner Map of St. Thomas, Nevada (1981) consists of a hand-drawn map by Frehner of St. Thomas, Nevada who lived there from 1914 to 1932. The town was abandoned in 1933 due to the construction of Hoover Dam and is now beneath the waters of Lake Mead. Also included are instructions to the Geography 135 class at University of Nevada, Las Vegas to reproduce the map, which became a student project.

Abstract

The Requests from Residents and Business Owners to City Officials of Las Vegas, Nevada (1940) consist of formal petitions which were filed with the City of Las Vegas Clerk, and letters to the Mayor and City Commissioners dating from February 1, 1940 to December 4, 1940. The petitions, including one from the Westside Improvement Association, requested infrastructure improvements and zoning restrictions, while others criticized city government actions related to maintenance of public areas and inaction on previous petitions. Additional requests addressed commercial and residential zoning enforcement and clarification regarding new construction.
