Renee Diamond Papers

Abstract

The Renee Diamond Papers date from 1972 to 2000 and consist primarily of political and professional materials including reports, correspondence, publications, newsletters, and planning documents collected by Diamond throughout her career. Diamond supported the feminist movement as a member of the National Organization for Women and held leadership roles in the Democratic party in Las Vegas, Nevada. The collection also documents Diamond’s campaigns for the Nevada State Assembly and includes material from her one term in the legislature.

Abstract

The collection contains drawings, photographs, and posters featuring costumes designed by José Luis Viñas, a Spanish costume designer active in Las Vegas, Nevada, from 1960 to 2000. Viñas is best known for his costume designs for Vive les Girls (1962-1975) and Casino de Paris (1963-1982), both long-running shows at the Dunes Hotel and Casino, as well as for Siegfried and Roy's show at the Frontier Hotel in the mid-1980s. Viñas also did some costume designs for an unidentified show in Sun City, South Africa in the late 1970s and later a show called Circus Cabaret at the Lady Luck Casino Hotel in Downtown Las Vegas.

The Leon Carter, Sr. Photographs (approximately 1948-2019) primarily contain photographic prints documenting Leon Carter, Sr.'s life living in Las Vegas, Nevada. Included are photographs of Carter, his brother John L. Carter, members of the Carter family, and snapshots from the Helldorado Days parade in the mid-1960s. The collection includes a photograph of Carter as a table dealer, a facsimile photograph of Carter when he played baseball in Canada in the early 1950s, and his yearbook portrait. Materials also include a brochure from Carter's political campaign running for County Commissioner in 1972, and a 1989 certificate of appreciation to Carter from the Las Vegas Breakfasters Lions Club.

Abstract

The Jon E. Cobain Papers (1963-2009) contains material representing Cobain's experience as the first official graduate of Nevada Southern University (later University of Nevada, Las Vegas) in 1964. Materials include photographs of Cobain and his family, a scrapbook from his 1964 graduation day, newsletters, a copy of Beau's Bits Handbook, personal correspondence, and his diploma. This collection is comprised exclusively of digital surrogates.

The Nevada Public Service Commission grants approval of the Los Angeles & Salt Lake Railroad Company selling water to the Pacific Fruit Company with the expressed understanding that this does not make the railroad company a public utility within the meaning of the Public Service Commission Act.

Text
