A postcard of Even and Kathy Thompson standing in front of Tradin' Post in Rhyolite, Nevada. Typed description provided on back of postcard reads: "Rhyolite, Nevada. At the Trading Post. Evan and Kathy Thompson, youngest ghost of Rhyolite." Address stamped on back: "The Bottle House, Rhyolite Nevada, P. O. Box 93, Beatty, Nevada 89003." This postcard can possibly be credited to Desert Graphix, Trona, CA 93562.

Description

A portion of a map produced by the Automobile Club of Southern California During the early 1920s. The map was of San Bernardino County, California; this portion of the map shows roads and railroads and communities in the Barstow, California, area. Of particular interest is the railroad linking Tonopah and Tide Water Railroad with the Santa Fe tracks at Ludlow, California, and the stops on the T&T between Ludlow and Riggs, north of Silver Lake, California. Description

A map of Southern California and Southwestern Nevada prepared by the map department of the Automobile Club of Southern California, 1906. This map shows the development of roads, railroads, and communites in the Southcentral Nevada and Death Valley areas. This map seems to be identical to that pictured in 0734 of this collection, although this photograph provides more Coverage of the Mojave Desert area. Thomas, Charles W., 1860-1937

Charles William Thomas was born July 29, 1860 in what would soon become Nevada. He and his family are known as early settlers in Nevada, and lived in various locations around Nevada including Beatty, Pioneer (near Goodsprings), and Searchlight, where he operated a merchantile store. Thomas became the postmaster of Pioneer, Nevada in October 1911. He died on August 16, 1937.

Matt Ryan, an employee of the U.S. Park Service; Seldom-Seen Slim; Lottie Mills, and mother Of Chloe Lisle; a woman who worked in Trona but whose name is not recalled; and Chris West, who lived up Surprise Canyon in the Panamint Mountains (identified from left to right).

From the Nye County, Nevada Photograph Collection (PH-00221) -- Series III. Beatty, Nevada -- Subseries III.B. Lisle Family. By this time Panamint City was pretty much a ghost town, but Ralph Lisle and his partners lived here while working a nearby tungsten mine. Because there was no road from Panamint City to the Mine, all transporting was done by burros, shown here loaded with cargo.

Abstract

The Squires Family Photographs document the Squires Family and the development of the Las Vegas Valley in Nevada from approximately 1860 to 1980, with a bulk of the photographs depicting people and events from 1900 to 1950. The photographs depict the Euro-American settlement and growth of Las Vegas, Nevada; traveling and exploration of Southern Nevada and the Southwestern United States; the Hoover (Boulder) Dam and the Colorado River; clubs and social groups; and the Squires Family, especially prominent newspaper editor and publisher Charles Pember (C. P. or “Pop”) Squires, Delphine “Mom” Anderson Squires, and their children.
