Abstract

The Thomas McLaughlin Papers (1937-1985) are comprised of newspaper clippings, photographs, and correspondence about real estate, the Clark County Democratic Party, and local fraternal organizations, especially the Knights of Columbus and the Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick in Las Vegas, Nevada. Materials also include some clippings on McLaughlin's appointment as trustee of the Las Vegas Park Racetrack in 1955.

Abstract

The Governor’s Conference on Nevada’s Library and Information Needs Collection (1978-1979) consists of the Nevada Libraries Your Winning Card scrapbook containing photographs, correspondence, and newspaper articles documenting the conference. Included are advertisements and fliers promoting “Speak Outs” along with resolutions and final reports on the success of the conference. Also included are Speak Out day tracks, slides of the events, and a booklet dedicated to Nevada’s delegates.

There are a wide array of documents including: gaming license applications from corporations in Nevada and New Jersey, copies of casino control acts from New Jersey, gaming publications, gaming-conference proceedings, gaming commission reports, newsletters and correspondence of the National Association of Gaming Attorneys (NAGA).

Abstract

The Las Vegas, Nevada Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer/Questioning (LGBTQ) Collection documents the social and political activities of Las Vegas, Nevada's LGBTQ community from 1955 to 2020. The collection includes hundreds of newspaper articles about LGBTQ issues, ranging from AIDS to Nevada legislation. The collection also documents the presence of the LGBTQ community in Las Vegas, including material from gay bars, nightclubs, social clubs, advocacy and political organizations, entertainers, and student groups. Previously known as the Las Vegas Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Collection.

The Betty Henderson Professional Papers (1963-1985) are comprised of materials produced by Betty Henderson in her capacity as a private music teacher in Las Vegas, Nevada and as a member of the Nevada Music Teachers Association (NMTA). The collection includes scrapbooks of concert programs and NMTA events, materials from Henderson's experiences in Europe as a People-to-People ambassador with the Music Teachers National Association, and recordings on reel-to-reel tapes of concerts Henderson performed in or judged.

These programs showcase the pageant contestants and feature advertisements from event sponsors. The collection also contains one souvenir program from the Miss Nevada Teen U.S.A. Pageant held in 1985.
