George Rhodine Papers

Abstract

The George Rhodine Papers (1969-1976) document local and national United States Bicentennial celebrations, including Clark County, Nevada Bicentennial activities. The collection was compiled by Rhodine, who worked as detective secretary with the Denver Police Department and later served as the Landmark Hotel's Personnel Director in Las Vegas, Nevada. The collection contains news clippings, correspondence, publications and articles. The collection also includes his research files documenting juvenile delinquency, equal rights amendment issues, social issues, and community service.

Elmo C. Bruner Architectural and Real Estate Appraisal Records

Abstract

The Elmo C. Bruner Architectural and Real Estate Appraisal Records date from 1937 to 1996 and contain architectural and appraisal records from Las Vegas, Nevada. Bruner joined A.L. Worswick’s office in 1947, taking it over following Worswick’s retirement in 1954. In 1958, Bruner formed the Las Vegas Appraisal and Finance Corporation. The bulk of the collection consists of appraisal records for residential and commercial properties in Las Vegas, Henderson, and North Las Vegas. These records provide a detailed look at the urban development of the region as well as building design, style, and neighborhood characteristics. The architectural drawings highlight the work of Worswick and Bruner, including Frazier Hall at Las Vegas High School and the original adobe administration building at McCarran Airport.

John Wittwer Collection on Agriculture in Nevada

Abstract

The John Wittwer Collection on Agriculture in Nevada (1898-1972) contains the professional papers and records of John Wittwer in his capacity as an Agricultural Extension agent for the University of Nevada from 1921 to 1954. The records are primarily annual reports containing text, photographs, newspaper clippings, and charts that provide a rich chronicle of the conditions of agriculture and ranching in southern Nevada from 1898 to 1972, with the bulk of the material dating from 1929 to 1955. These conditions span water issues, such as flood control and irrigation, to the general difficulties of sustaining agriculture and viable food production in a desert environment. The reports come from the Agricultural Experiment Stations in Clark and Lincoln counties and most contain both a statistical report and a narrative summary.

Delores Brownhofer Neonis Papers

Abstract

Collection is comprised of the Delores Brownhofer Neonis Papers dating from 1941-1975. The collection contains bank records, payroll information, recipes, and sales slips for the Original Steak House on 1st Street, Las Vegas, Nevada. Also included are the Las Vegas Monorail System evaluations and financial feasibility reports, proposals, and correspondence. The Neonis real estate papers contain appraisals, property sales, lease and purchase agreements, promotional materials, maps, and correspondence. There are personal items that consist of a Helldorado button, poker chips, photographs, plays, and voting information.

Abstract

The Clark County, Nevada United States Bicentennial collection dates from approximately 1970 to 1976. The collection documents Nevada's participation in the 1976 Bicentennial celebration of the American Revolution, as well as celebrations from other states and countries in Europe. The collection is comprised of official reports from the U.S. Bicentennial committee, scrapbooks from the Clark County bicentennial committee, newspapers, and event programs from bicentennial celebrations around the country. The collection also contains a film of various American states' bicentennial celebrations.

Zelvin Lowman Papers

Abstract

The Zelvin Lowman Papers (1938-2001) contain the papers of Assemblyman Zelvin "Zel" Lowman who served in the Nevada State Legislature from 1967 to 1977. Included are court records, publications, correspondence, reports, and newspaper clippings pertaining to his time in office. Subjects include the Clark County School District, school busing, water and air quality issues, capital punishment, medical malpractice, mental health legislation, and the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). The 2018 addition includes newspaper clippings, awards, citations, school records, photographs, occasional cards, invitations, and extensive material on the Lowman's involvement with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America. Also included are books written by Zel Lowman about scouting and the Presbyterian Church.

The Las Vegas Art League Scrapbooks are comprised of two scrapbooks, housed in a binder and a pressbook, that were presented as an annual report to the American Artists Professional League in 1967 by the Las Vegas Art League in Las Vegas, Nevada. The collection includes newspaper clippings, photographs, and information about the activities of the Las Vegas Art League during 1966.

Martin Stern Architectural Records

Abstract

The collection is comprised of drawings (1950-1990) completed by American architect Martin Stern and/or his architectural firm, Martin Stern Jr., AIA Architect and Associates, and contains 400 cubic feet of materials including 710 drawings from over 300 different projects involving over 100 buildings. Stern’s work focused on the resort centers of Las Vegas, Nevada; Reno, Nevada; Lake Tahoe, Stateline, Nevada; and Atlantic City, New Jersey. The materials feature hand-drawn architectural drawings, ranging from pencil and ink on tracing paper preliminary sketches to ink on Mylar (TM) construction documents, and a number of artist’s renderings, used for presentations and promotional materials. The drawings also contain work from a number of consultants, engineers, and other architects who collaborated on the development of the various projects. The collection includes architectural drawings for: hotels, casinos, integrated casino resorts, office towers, multi-family residential developments, and custom single-family homes.
