The University of Nevada, Las Vegas Division of Educational Outreach Records (1971-2019) contain correspondence, planning information, promotional materials, photographs, and newspaper clippings about the history of the division and commemorative events such as the 25th and 40th anniversaries. The majority of the collection materials are comprised of course catalogs, directories, student journals, member handbooks, scrapbooks, and council meeting minutes for the division's lifelong learning programs for nontraditional students: the Extended Education Center for Lifelong Learning (EXCELL) and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI). Materials also include digital files of jazz performances from OLLI's Jazz Appreciation class, a video interview about OLLI, and recording of an OLLI panel featuring World War II veterans.
The John Levy Lighting Productions, Inc. Records (approximately 1990-2022) contain correspondence, invoices, contracts, expense reports, newspaper and magazine clippings, photographs, slides, and digital files detailing the development of various projects primarily in Las Vegas, Nevada. The records also contain architectural lighting drawings, electrical schematics and design details, conceptual sketches, and artist renderings of projects in Las Vegas, throughout United States, and various international locations.
The Jean Ford Papers (1958-1996) include political documents, campaign materials for Jean Ford's political campaigns, and materials pertaining to campaign issues such as health services, general improvement districts, and parks and recreation. There is extensive material on Red Rock National Conservation Area, Lake Mead National Recreation Area, and the National Issues Forum. Women's issues cover the years 1964-1981 and contain information relating to the League of Women Voters, Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), and International Women's Year (IWY), as well as Anti-ERA and Anti-IWY materials.
The Sierra Club Toiyabe Chapter Records (1951 to 2021) are composed of files from Sierra Club officers and environmental activists in the Southern Nevada (formerly Las Vegas) Group of the Toiyabe Chapter. The collection documents the involvement of the Southern Nevada group in a variety of environmental concerns, such as air quality, transportation, urbanization, and nuclear issues, in which the chapter has expressed interest. The records are comprised of correspondence, memoranda, meeting minutes and agendas, newspapers, magazines, newsletters, pamphlets, press releases, legislation, recommendations, resolutions, and general information. Due to the group’s location in the heart of the Mojave Desert, the collection provides excellent case studies of significant changes in the post-World War II American environmental movement, notably the increased recognition of the worth of desert lands.
The collection is comprised of drawings (1950-1990) completed by American architect Martin Stern and/or his architectural firm, Martin Stern Jr., AIA Architect and Associates, and contains 400 cubic feet of materials including 710 drawings from over 300 different projects involving over 100 buildings. Stern’s work focused on the resort centers of Las Vegas, Nevada; Reno, Nevada; Lake Tahoe, Stateline, Nevada; and Atlantic City, New Jersey. The materials feature hand-drawn architectural drawings, ranging from pencil and ink on tracing paper preliminary sketches to ink on Mylar (TM) construction documents, and a number of artist’s renderings, used for presentations and promotional materials. The drawings also contain work from a number of consultants, engineers, and other architects who collaborated on the development of the various projects. The collection includes architectural drawings for: hotels, casinos, integrated casino resorts, office towers, multi-family residential developments, and custom single-family homes.
