Raymond Brooks Papers on Mining

Abstract

The Raymond Brooks Papers on Mining (approximately 1900-1955) document Brooks' time working in the mining and railroad industries in central and southern Nevada, as well as in Rhodesia (Zimbabwe). Brooks worked as a mining engineer and executive in many Nevada mining districts, including Goldfield, Tonopah, Bullfrog, Rawhide, Chloride, Beatty, Wonder, and Searchlight. The collection consists of photographs, photograph albums, ledgers and mining certificates, correspondence, and publications that all relate to mining. Notable figures mentioned in material throughout the collection include George Nixon, George Wingfield, William MacMaster, and James Butler.

The James McQuade Erotic Comics (approximately 1970-2022) contain 12 copies of James McQuade's Adventures of Misty and two issues of his Misty & The Valkyries adult comic books published by Forbidden Fruit in the early 1990s. The materials also contain original sketch pads, clippings, email correspondence, and source materials used in McQuade's artwork.

Abstract

Erica Mosca Papers (approximately 1986-2023) contain photographs, memorabilia, and training materials documenting Nevada State Assemblywoman Erica V. Mosca's early childhood, education, and political career. Photographs document Mosca's early education and her graduation from Boston University, her teaching career as a 5th grade teacher for Goldfarb Elementary School in Las Vegas, Nevada, and her activities as founder and executive director of the "Leaders in Training" nonprofit organization. Other materials in this collection include photographs of Mosca with her family and friends during the opening day 82nd session of the Nevada State Assembly and some memorabilia and training materials pertaining to the legislative session.

Abstract

The Rich Rizzo Professional Papers (approximately 1960-2022) are comprised largely of photographs documenting the life of Las Vegas, Nevada dancer and choreographer Rich Rizzo in shows such as Jubilee! and Lido de Paris in Las Vegas and in Paris, France. The photographs show rehearsal and performances, Rizzo with his partner and fellow choreographer Winston Helmsley, dancers and showgirls, Donn Arden, and Miss Bluebell. Other types of material include business and personal correspondence, contracts, production prospectives and set designs, show programs, and costume design photographs.

Maria LaCavera Papers

Abstract

The Maria LaCavera Papers (1947-2017) contain the papers of professional dancer Maria LaCavera. The collection documents the career of LaCavera dancing in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Flamingo Hotel in 1947, and the Last Frontier Hotel in 1949 as one of the Ramona Girls dancing in the Danny O'Neil Varieties Act. Materials include photographs of LaCavera and other Ramona Girls, newspaper clippings, correspondence, LaCavera's American Guild of Variety Artists (AGVA) employment contracts, Fabulous Las Vegas magazines, and hotel receipts. Other items of note include photographs of the 1949 Helldorado parade, a Frontier Hotel Ramona Room menu, and Frontier Hotel ephemera. There is also a copy of a self-published biography of LaCavera, written by her daughter-in-law Kristin Meyer entitled From Bon-Air to the Last Frontier. The collection also contains the digital images used to illustrate the book.

Nancy Wier Papers on Rock Art in Southern Nevada

Abstract

The Nancy Wier Papers on Rock Art in Southern Nevada (approximately 1930-2003) contain photographs, notes, research, and publications focused on rock art (rock writing) found in the Southern Nevada Region. Wier founded the Southern Nevada Rock Art Enthusiasts (SNRAE) in 1992, and the photograph albums document trips across Nevada, Southern California, Utah, and Arizona. The photograph albums are grouped by site location, and the description was taken directly from Wier's albums. The majority of the collection documents rock writings in Southern Nevada.

Goodman Papers (1888-2020) are comprised of records produced by Oscar Goodman from his time as a criminal defense lawyer in Las Vegas, Nevada. This includes working, legal, and evidence files from his own individual practice and his time as a partner at various law firms. The collection contains case files, wiretap tapes and transcripts, administrative files, and files relating to the legal affairs of his wife, Carolyn Goodman. The collection also contains the working files of David Chesnoff, lawyer and Goodman's former legal partner.
