The websites archived in this series represent a sampling of the most frequently shared links on Twitter using the keyword “vegas” between September 29 and October 7, 2017. The series also includes Tweets from individual and news media accounts that were publicly available. Links to web content were selected from a list generated from twarc, a command line tool and Python library for archiving Twitter JSON data. Websites primarily represent mainstream and alternative news media sites, both domestic and foreign.

Abstract

The Las Vegas Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Collection (approximately 1960-2012) contains photographs of Teenbeat Club (located at 4416 Paradise Road, Las Vegas, Nevada) founders Keith Austin and Steve Miller from 1962 to 1968, as well as a reprodution of a poster from the club. The collection also contains Hall of Fame (HOF) Induction Ceremony and Concert program and ticket stubs, HOF Board of Directors minutes from 2010, and an advertisement and digital file of the "Strip Away the Years: the Story of the Las Vegas Rock Reunion Concert" film produced in 2012.

Abstract

The Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Southern Nevada Photograph Collection contains mainly candid photographs of events and individuals affiliated with the Las Vegas-based Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Southern Nevada (GLCCSN) dating from 1993 to 2000. Photographs depict events honoring prominent members of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer community; meetings at GLCCSN; and candidate nights for members of the community running for public office. The collection also includes a number of photographs of the Freedom to Marry celebration at the GLCCSN and the Gay Pride Las Vegas festival from 1998 to 1999.

Las Vegas, Nevada Anti-Gay Counter-Protest Collection

Abstract

The Las Vegas, Nevada Anti-Gay Counter-Protest Collection (2001) documents the counter-protests against supporters of Reverend Fred Phelps of the Westboro Baptist Church at their anti-homosexual demonstrations. The counter-protests were held at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas campus and the Liberace Museum on March 10, 2001. Materials in this collection included a typed excerpt from the journal of Dennis McBride recounting his experiences on the day of the protest. Also included are photographic prints of counter-protestor Joshua Dart at the demonstration, a poster from the demonstration, correspondence between McBride and Dart, and an issue of the Rebel Yell featuring a front page article about the demonstration.
