THE EVOLUTION OF IVANPAH SOLAR • Jamey Stillings A digital archive for UNLV University Libraries Special Collections This is a collection of 300 predominantly black and white images representing a range of work from The Evolution of Ivanpah Solar, a photography project about construction of the Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System in the Mojave Desert along the Nevada/California border. • Book and Exhibition Images - These 61 black and white images were used for The Evolution of Ivanpah Solar book, published by Steidl in 2015, and have been or may be used for exhibition. • Additional Exhibition Images - These 15 black and white images have been or may be used for exhibition. • Additional Images from Working Files - These 100 black and white images augment the collection and are used by the artist for editorial licensing, presentations, etc. where additional imagery is needed to supplement the Book and Exhibition image groups. • Additional Images from Lightroom Adjusted RAW Files - These 27 black and white images broaden the scope of imagery shot over the course of the project. (Note: Basic BW and contrast corrections were made in Lightroom, then the files were exported as TIFF files. They were not worked on individually in Photoshop.) • Color Image Samples from Working Files - These 20 color images, many of which are also in the archive as black and white images, share examples of what the project would have looked like, if the artist had chosen to publish and exhibit the work in color. • Additional On Site Images from Lightroom Adjusted RAW files - On a few occasions, beginning in June 2012, the artist was permitted to photograph on the Ivanpah Solar site. These 77 images provide a view of what Ivanpah Solar looked like during construction and upon its completion. Archive File Naming Protocol: • The first number series of each file name is the date written as: YYYYMMDD. • The last number series of each file name is unique to the image with numbers running from the start to the end of the project. • "BookEx" denotes images used in the Ivanpah book and may also be exhibition prints.
