Liddle, Samuel

Samuel Liddle owned and operated a general store in Leadville, Nevada during 1887. Born in England around 1841, Samuel traveled to the western United States to reach mining areas where his occupation as a mining engineer and machinist kept him employed.

Workers installing the now-famous Vegas Vic sign on the front of the Pioneer Club. Stamped on back of photo: "Photo by Desert Sea News Bureau. Las Vegas, Nevada." Transcribed from photo sleeve: "First Highrise Hotel -- Center of action downtown throughtout the '30s was the Apache Hotel which boasted an elevator and a nitery downstairs. The corner is now Binion's Horseshoe, but the spot has undergone many name changes from Tony Cornero's 'S.S. Rex' to the Eldorado where the mobs were fighting for control of the race wire. Bugsy Siegel's influence was first felt here in the early '40s."

Costume Details: Baggy yellow trousers with oversized yellow tunic-style top with a lion head on front, oversized teal collar and cuffs and teal sash; black oversized knee-length tunic-style top with a tiger head on front, with yellow sash; both costumes have tasseled black slippers. Red robe with tiger and leopard motifs on the sleeves, tied with a gold tasseled rope belt, baggy red trousers knotted at the ankles; dark blue robe with a black panther motif on the left sleeve and side, tied with a gold tasseled rope belt, with black trousers and boots.

From the Dennis McBride Photograph Collection (PH-00263) -- LGBTQ+ events and organizations in Las Vegas, Nevada -- Digital images file. Notes from the donor, Dennis McBride: Krave nightclub opened on November 13, 2004 inside the Desert Passage shopping area of the Aladdin Hotel and Casino, and remained at this location after Desert Passage became the Miracle Mile Shops. In July 2012 Krave announced its move from the Miracle Mile Shops to the empty motion picture theater in the Neonopolis shopping mall downtown on Fremont Street and a name change to Krave Massive. The nightclub held its grand opening in Neonopolis on June 16, 2013, only to close within two months. Krave moved a third time into the former Club Utopia at 3765 Las Vegas Boulevard South. Krave opened here on November 1, 2013, then closed permanently on July 27, 2014. ... This photo was taken of the Krave nightclub sign in Neonopolis still in place and lit despite the nightclub having been gone from the site for two years.

On March 19, 1981, Steve Flint interviewed Norman Forsythe (born 1927 in St. Paris, Ohio) about his experiences living in Las Vegas, Nevada. Forsythe talks mainly about his arrival to Las Vegas and his time as a firefighter with, at first, the Las Vegas Fire Department and thereafter the Clark County Fire Department, where he eventually became a battalion chief. Forsythe also talks about the history and development of Las Vegas, the prices of land, some notable fires, including the El Rancho Vegas fire, and what he recalls about the aboveground atomic testing.

On February 12, 1975, collector Laura Bell interviewed her neighbor, plant mechanic foreman, Neil H. Holmes (born on November 16th, 1897 in Chicopee, Kansas) in the collector’s home in Boulder City, Nevada. This interview covers the construction of Boulder (Hoover) Dam. During this interview Neil also discusses local living conditions in 1931.
