Abstract

The Las Vegas-Clark County Consolidation Records (1976-1989) consist of newspaper articles, interviews, and legislative records. Material was donated by Jim Azar from his research for a professional paper in Public Administration, at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, "Blurred Boundaries and Business Licensing," which he completed in 1993.

The 2017 addition includes materials from Jerry Jackson's career as a as a director, producer, choreographer, writer, lyricist, and costume designer involved with Las Vegas, Nevada shows dating from 1956 to 2009. The accession includes sketches of costumes, stage designs, newspaper clippings, and promotional ephemera from Jackson's shows in Las Vegas, Nevada as well as his shows in Australia, Guam, and the Bahamas. Also included is a painting by Hedy Jo Star and a stage floor plan for El Casino located in Freeport, Bahamas.

Scope and Contents

The Womens Correctional Facility papers (1970-2001) contains material documenting Florence McClure’s work on behalf of the women’s correctional facility that was constructed in North Las Vegas. It includes materials about the Southern Nevada Womens Correctional Facility (SNWCF) including correspondence, bids and proposals, and other site selection documents relating to the construction of the facility. The series also contains more general information on corrections and the rights of victims. Included are newspaper clippings, correspondence, reports and studies and drafts of Nevada legislation on corrections issues.

Fallman Family Papers

Abstract

The Fallman Family Papers (approximately 1950-2005) consist of correspondence, newspaper clippings, photographic prints and slides, scrapbooks, and pamphlets from James and Ima Fallman and their daughter, Janice. The correspondence primarily relates to James and Ima Fallman and chronicles Ima's involvement with the Francisco Garces chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), James's work as a bartender in Las Vegas, Nevada, and awards he received during World War II. The newspaper clippings mention either James Fallman or his daughter, Janice, and her involvement with the Las Vegas High School Rhythmettes dance team. The majority of materials from Janice describe her school days at Las Vegas High School and events participated in as a child and young adult.

Oral history interview with Lorna Kesterson conducted by James M. Greene on October 18, 1974 for the Ralph Roske Oral History Project on Early Las Vegas. Kesterson discusses her work in news editing as well as her original reasons for moving to Southern Nevada. She also discusses teenage social life of Boulder City, Nevada during the 1940s.

Abstract

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Nursing Records (1950-2019) contain records documenting the history of the UNLV School of Nursing. The materials include records from the nursing school's Alumni Association, including financial reports, bylaws, correspondence, and membership information; recruitment materials from the School of Nursing, including brochures, photographs, and program requirements; history of the School of Nursing, including photographs, newspaper clippings, a short summary of the program, and a short documentary film comprised of digital video files; and accreditation information, including newspaper articles, accreditation reports, and evaluations of the program from the Nevada State Board. The materials also include nursing student uniforms, caps, and nursing capes from the 1950s and 1960s.
