BOX 141, LAS VEGAS, NEVADA EDITOR: MARY KIMSEY PRESIDENT: M IKE PI N J UV 878-9707 OPPORTUNITY CENTER EDITORS NOTES The children at the Center will be enjoying music on their AM-FM radio do- nated by the Jewish War Veterans' auxili- ary. Fourteen of them have been giving of their time at the Center. A Hallo- ween Party which they planned was en- joyed by all the Children. The American Car Federation Wives made a nice contribution to the Center. The Rainbow Girls are assisting Mrs. Austin five days a week with the young adult group. From the Neighborhood Youth Core comes Priscilla Chenoweth and Dorothy Young to assist with chores around Center. Can you imagine a cast off doll with no hair being rejuvinated to look like new by dressing it in nite clothes with a nite cap. Thats what Red Southern of Henderson has been doing to some old dolls around the Center. She has been dressing cast off dolls,(which she wel- comes from all contributors) for different Charitable Organizations for a number of years now. The rejuvinated dolls will be sold by the Center as a Furid Raising Project in the near future . She wants us all to be pleasant- ly surprised with this years dinner. The table decorations are being created by the Young Adult group at the Center. So watch the Newsletter for the time, place and date. THE NATIONAL RETARDED CHILDRENS WEEK NOVEMBER 14-20 Keep checking newspapers for events to be happening during this week. REMEMBER RETARDED CHILDREN CAN BE HELPED! I have enjoyed writing this news- paper thru the year, although I need some new ideas and help. Are there any of you out there that would like an article iri our letter to advertize for something regarding retarded children? Would you like a-feature article each month on one of our children with a picture? Are there any poems that have been written about your children by an adult or a child? Do you have a thought for the month or any information of something that is being done for our children in the community? Please feel free to call me during the day or evenings or even just a call to chat. 878-0043 By Mary Kimsey LAST MONTHS PROGRAM Dr. Foster outlined the program for the year at Helen J. Stewart School. He said the children in our five groups are going by age. The teachers are Miss Allen, Mrs. Cargo, Mr. Fredithal, Mrs. Harris, Mrs. Higgins, and Mrs. McConahay. The children are being taught in 'five areas, 1st basic training, 2nd trained to a task, 3rd arts and .crafts workshop, 4th social training, and 5th recreation, organized sports, drama, rhythm and music, swimming and planned trips. THRIFT SHOP The Royal Neighbors of America from Henderson helped with the big sale at the Shop October 30-31st. If you are going thru your kids toys before Christmas or decide to replace some of your Christmas decorations won't you please take the old things to the Shop for resale. Also BAGS are needed!!
