Description

Following the October 1, 2017 killing of 58 people at the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival on the Las Vegas Strip, the Las Vegas community responded in a variety of ways. Envisioned by activists and built by volunteers, the City of Las Vegas established the Las Vegas Community Healing Garden at 1015 S. Casino Center Boulevard to honor the victims and give family members and the community a place to gather to remember.

The Las Vegas Ranch and Las Vegas Fort photographs depict the Las Vegas Ranch (also known as the Stewart Ranch) and the Las Vegas Fort (also known as the Old Mormon Fort) from approximately 1900 to 1940. The land around the Stewart Ranch and the Las Vegas Fort eventually became the town site for the city of Las Vegas, Nevada. The photographs include the fort, houses at the Stewart Ranch, the orchard, and Las Vegas Creek. The items described include photographic prints and negatives; items listed are photographic prints unless otherwise specified.

Description

Stalled resort construction and a future demolition project cluster along Las Vegas Boulevard generally between Desert Inn and Sahara. Construction on the Fountainbleau (tall blue building, right) ceased in 2009, while Boyd Gaming's Echelon Project stopped construction on former Stardust site back in 2008. That project was revived as the Resorts World Las Vegas. The Las Vegas Visitors and Convention Authority has scheduled the demolition of the Riviera Hotel and Casino for in summer 2016 to make way for a convention center expansion.

The event marked the construction start ofthe All Net Resort & Arena, a $1.4 billion arena, hotel and shopping center project in Las Vegas, Nevada. Robinson, a former NBA player, talks about the vision behind this project and its impact on the Las Vegas community.
