Saltzman, Sara, 1899-1997

Bio information taken from Las Vegas Sun obituary: "Sara Saltzman, a longtime Las Vegan who co-founded the company that later became the Marshall-Rousso clothing store chain, died Monday. She was 97. Saltzman was born Sept. 28, 1899, in Russia. When she was 13, she moved with her family to Cleveland, where she attended school and was among the first women in that city to own and drive a car. She worked as executive secretary to her brother, Maurice Gusman, a prominent Cleveland banker and philanthropist.

Shaw, Gilbert "Gil", 1928-

Gilbert Shaw, better known as Gil, was raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Los Angeles, California, where he had his bar mitzvah. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the US Navy and became a combat correspondent. The next twenty-seven years was a military career in both the Navy and Coast Guard and included service in both Korea and Vietnam. His training as a journalist and photographer gave him a trained eye on the history around him. This gave him a keen eye on his experiences as a founding member of Las Vegas' first Reform Judaism synagogue, Congregation Ner Tamid.

Southern Nevada Jewish Heritage Project

"The goal of this 2014-2015 project is to build a web and mobile resource that will connect researchers from around the world to thousands of historical items—photographs, brochures, scrapbooks, letters, drawings, videos, and more—detailing the lives and contributions of Jews in Southern Nevada. It will include carefully researched biographies, timelines, and histories of institutions, events, and prominent themes showing the integral roles Jews have played in the history of Southern Nevada.
