Arnel Wilks interviews his neighbor, auto mechanic Hobert D. Blair (b. 1900), who moved to Nevada in 1931. This oral history interview takes place in the living room of the collector’s home in Boulder City, Nevada. Blair discusses Boulder City in the early days, as well as, Las Vegas in the 1930s.
Oral history interview with Fred Goldberg conducted by Barbara Tabach on December 03, 2017 for the Remembering 1 October Oral History Project. In this interview, Fred Goldberg shares his experience of flying to Las Vegas, Nevada on October 1, 2017 while the mass shooting occurred on the Strip as well as his eventual arrival in Las Vegas. He describes the changes in travel after the shooting, including the plane's diverted course due to the McCarran airport lockdown and the enforced luggage check at his hotel in Las Vegas. Goldberg discusses his confusion regarding what had happened and his discovery of the tragic events that had occurred.
On February 27, 1981, Edward Gentry interviewed Marie Jordan in her home in Las Vegas, Nevada. The two discuss social differences between Arizona and Las Vegas, particularly in the ways schools were segregated in Las Vegas. Jordan also discusses the “Whites Only” policy on the Strip and Downtown. The interview concludes with Jordan sharing her views on the importance of helping others.

On May 12, 1978, Lyle Helmick interviewed his mother, Shirley Helmick (born March 7, 1930 in Colorado), in her home in Las Vegas, Nevada. The two discuss Helmick’s personal history, occupational history, and reasons for moving to Nevada. The interview concludes with Helmick explaining events that the United Methodist Church hosts.
Oral history interview with Donald Brinkerhoff conducted by by Stefani Evans on September 30, 2016 for the Building Las Vegas Oral History Project. He describes organizing the signature tree for The Mirage, building the Mirage volcano, taking the idea for Bellagio’s conservatory from the DuPont family’s Longwood Gardens, creating faux banyans in the Mirage atrium, creating the model for the Las Vegas Strip median, and building the mountain on Las Vegas Boulevard in front of Wynn Las Vegas to conceal the Cloud at the Fashion Show Mall.
Charles Chesnutt interviews Barbara Barnett (b. 1936) at Chesnutt’s home. The two discuss Barnett’s experiences as a nurse in different units within several of early hospitals in Las Vegas, with specific focus on how patients were cared for and how the profession has evolved. Barnett also briefly talks about her time at the Hacienda and what it was like working in a casino. The two also discuss how the city has grown, specifically on social changes, climate change regarding the increase in humidity, and the casino additions to the Strip and Downtown areas.
Dennis Chamberland interviews Thomas Barbarite (b. 1932) in his home about his time in Las Vegas and his experiences in the casino industry. Barbarite discusses his time at the Four Queens and the Dunes as a dealer as well as his work as a pit boss at the Flamingo, the Aladdin, and Caesars Palace. Chamberland also asks Barbarite about the changes over time on the Strip, including the disappearance of lounge shows and expansion of larger shows on the Strip. Barbarite also discusses the involvement of the mob in Las Vegas, particularly the influence of Bugsy Siegel in the operation of various properties.
Interviewed by David Schwartz. Elliott Schecter got a job dealing poker at a private club in New York City to earn spending money while he was a student at Rutgers. He worked as a dealer on a casino cruise ship, then became the shift manager in the poker room at the Seminole Casino Hollywood in Florida when it opened. Elliott also worked on the Palm Beach Princess casino cruise ship, at the Reno Hilton, here in Las Vegas at the Palms, at the Downstream Casino Resort in Oklahoma, and was working at the Snoqualmie Casino in the Seattle area at the time of the interview.
