The Elbert Edwards Photograph Collection contains photographs of Nevada from 1852 to 1991. The collection has a wide variety of photographs, including: white pioneers and settlers; early Nevada towns; Nevada politicians; early Las Vegas landmarks; Boulder City schools; petroglyphs from Nevada's indigenous populations; Lost City and Lake Mead; railroads; the Hoover Dam (Boulder Dam); Basic Magnesium Inc. in Henderson, Nevada; geographical features; the Edwards family; and photographs of Elbert Edwards's participation in the Las Vegas Education Association and the Rotary Club.
The Wayne Cronister Photograph Collection depicts towns in Southern Nevada from 1905 to 1950. The photographs primarily depict Fremont Street in Las Vegas, Nevada and the construction of the Hoover (Boulder) Dam on the Colorado River. The photographs also include the Union Pacific Railroad Depot in Las Vegas, Nevada, the abandoned town of Rhyolite, Nevada, and a mining camp in El Dorado Canyon.
The William White Postcard Collection (approximately 1930-1940) consists of three postcards depicting the Hoover Dam (Boulder Dam) on the border of Nevada and Arizona. One postcard showcases Oskar J. W. Hansen’s “Figures of the Republic” sculptures near the Hoover Dam. Another postcard displays an interior view of the visitor’s gallery at the Hoover Dam. The final postcard depicts the Hoover Dam at sunset.
The Woodrow Wilson Photograph Collection consists of black-and-white photographic prints and negatives. The images depict black elected government leaders attending the first Conference of Black Elected Officials held in Washington, D.C. in September 1969. Of particular interest are images of Nevada's first black state legislator, Woodrow Wilson; Georgia state representative, Julian Bond; and President Richard Nixon.
The Alice Key Photograph Collection (1930s-1990s) is comprised of color and black-and-white photographic prints of activist, dancer, and journalist Alice Key with family, friends, political figures, and performers. Materials include photographs of Senator Howard Cannon, Louis Armstrong, and Bill Robinson, and signed professional head shots. Also pictured are Key's coworkers and unidentified performers.
The Richard B. Taylor Photograph Collection (approximately 1957-1991) consists of black-and-white and color photographic prints and negatives. The images depict Taylor alongside Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity brothers playing table games and seated at a bar inside the Arizona Club in Las Vegas, Nevada. Additional images portray Taylor’s home on Trotter Circle in Las Vegas decorated for Halloween.
The Marian Honeycutt Photograph Collection (1963-1969) is comprised of snapshots taken of famous Las Vegas landmarks in the 1960s. Among the landmarks depicted are: the Golden Nugget, the Golden Slipper, the Desert Inn Hotel, and the Sahara Hotel. Some of the snapshots were taken from the interior of a vehicle.
The Bertha Gresh Photograph Collection dates between approximately 1902 and 1974. Materials include photographic prints and a corresponding photographic negative. Images depict Gresh as a young woman in Cedarburg, Wisconsin; with her husband Cyrus Gresh in Los Angeles, California; and at her home in Nelson, Nevada. Also included are images of the Rand Mine and the Wall Street Mine near Gresh's home in Nelson.
The Sunnie Gillette Photograph Collection (approximately 1900-1930) consists of black-and-white photographic prints and negatives depicting early Las Vegas, Nevada. Scenes include Fremont Street, the Clark County Courthouse, the First Methodist Church on 3rd and Bridger Streets, and rail yards in Las Vegas. Also included are images of street scenes, fundraisers, parades, and individuals in Las Vegas.
The Breck Wall Photograph Collection, approximately 1960 to 1980, consists of black-and-white photographic prints depicting comedian and entertainer, Breck Wall, and other cast members of the comedy revue, “Bottom’s Up!” in Las Vegas, Nevada. Images include scenes from sketches performed on the show, group shots of the cast members off-set, and portraits of Wall.
