Oral history interview with Margaret Ostler Stout-Hall conducted by Claytee D. White on August 11, 2014 for the West Charleston Neighborhoods--an Oral History Project of Ward 1. Stout-Hall discusses growing up in Las Vegas, Nevada’s Rancho Circle neighborhood, attending Las Vegas High School, and becoming a Rhythmette. She also talks about working at the El Portal Theatre, dancing at the Wildcat Lair, and working for Harry Reid later in life.

Oral history interview with Geoconda Arguello Kline conducted by Claytee D. White on September 18, 2014 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. Arguello Kline discusses being the first female Secretary-Treasurer of the Culinary Union Local 226 and how she worked her way up the ranks. She then describes being instrumental in crafting the language that ensured housekeepers’ safety as rooms on the Las Vegas, Nevada Strip grew larger and more elaborate, thus more difficult to clean.

Abstract

The Billie Mae Polson Photograph Collection, approximately 1948 to 1978, consists of fifty-one color postcards from Las Vegas, Nevada, the Hoover Dam, and surrounding areas. Also included in the collection are original black-and-white and color photographs of the Valley of Fire Nevada State Park, an Easter parade in Las Vegas, and the Las Vegas 5th Street School prior to demolition. There are also ten negatives included in this collection that correspond with select postcards and the photographs from the Valley of Fire Nevada State Park.

The majority of the images depict the construction of Basic Magnesium, Inc. (BMI), in Henderson, Nevada; the remaining images depict a variety of locations and events in Kunkel's birthplace, Winslow, Arizona.

The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District Photograph Collection (approximately 1970-1979) consists of black-and-white and color photographic prints and some corresponding negatives. The images portray exterior and interior views of Southern Nevada libraries, including Las Vegas-Clark County public libraries, the Boulder City, Nevada Public Library, and the Henderson, Nevada Public Library on Water Street. Also included are images of building murals, ribbon cutting ceremonies, and patrons at Las Vegas, Nevada public libraries, as well as trailers serving as libraries and bookmobiles in Las Vegas.

The Geneva Stark Merwin Photograph Collection features photographic prints and negatives of locations throughout Pahrump, Nevada between 1941 and 1942. Primary locations include a Pahrump school and Pahrump Ranch, as well as locations in local fields and mountains. The photographs capture candid scenes of people walking to school and feeding animals.

Ernest Mitchell Pratt Photographs

Abstract

The Ernest Mitchell Pratt Photographs (approximately 1932-1936) consist of black-and-white photographic prints, signed and unsigned, taken by Pratt while Hoover Dam was under construction. Many prints are signed and mounted, and two are noted as award-winning photographs shown at the Annual International Salon of Camera Pictorialists in Los Angeles, California. There are additional working prints included alongside the final prints for most of the scenes. Also included in the collection is one small photograph of Pratt. This collection was formerly known as the Price Photograph Collection.

She also discusses her work as a facilitator for the school integration program in Las Vegas and starting the Nevada Health Care Reform Project.
