Women of Diversity Productions, Inc. Records

Abstract

The Women of Diversity Productions, Inc. Records (approximately 1920-2018) contain the records of Las Vegas, Nevada based organization, Women of Diversity Productions, Inc (WOD). The collection is comprised of operational records and research primarily created by WOD's founder, Dr. Marlene Adrian. The records represent the organization's work in publishing, creating documentaries, and organizing events highlighting the history and achievements of women in Nevada's history. Records include event files, Board of Director meeting agendas and minutes, grant applications, and research files for WOD's activities including projects for the Las Vegas Centennial and Nevada Sesquicentennial events. The materials also include research and final reports for the 2017 and 2018 Gaming Gender Equality Index which was co-authored by Adrian and Denise R. Duarte.

Art Wolf Professional Papers

Abstract

The Art Wolf Professional Papers (1988-2018) document the career of museum professional and consultant Art Wolf who specialized in supporting cultural heritage of indigenous communities, particularly in the Southwest and Las Vegas, Nevada. Materials document Wolf's work with the American Alliance of Museums (AAM) as a board member, in conference planning, and as a Study Leader for Smithsonian Associates Study Tours. Also included are materials that represent Wolf's involvement as an alumni of the Leadership Las Vegas program and director of the Nevada State Museum. The collection includes some ephemera and invitations to different events held in Las Vegas, Nevada that Wolf was invited to. The collection also includes examples of unsuccessful bids for consultancy jobs through WOLF Consulting and his files as a master's thesis adviser for the Museum Studies program at Harvard Extension School.

Liberty Engine Company No. 1 Records

Abstract

The Liberty Engine Company No. 1 Records (1876-1927) consist of two accounting ledgers belonging to the Liberty Engine Company No. 1, the fifth volunteer fire company formed in Gold Hill, Nevada in 1868. One ledger is signed by a the wife of J. H. (John H.) Witte, who was listed in an 1880 edition of the Gold Hill Daily News as a member of the Liberty Engine Company No. 1. The collection also contains banking transactions dating from 1926 to 1927 and a handwritten account of various payments made to the heirs of a Mrs. S. K. Witte in 1906. Some items in this collection are digital surrogates.

Zelvin Lowman Papers

Abstract

The Zelvin Lowman Papers (1938-2001) contain the papers of Assemblyman Zelvin "Zel" Lowman who served in the Nevada State Legislature from 1967 to 1977. Included are court records, publications, correspondence, reports, and newspaper clippings pertaining to his time in office. Subjects include the Clark County School District, school busing, water and air quality issues, capital punishment, medical malpractice, mental health legislation, and the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). The 2018 addition includes newspaper clippings, awards, citations, school records, photographs, occasional cards, invitations, and extensive material on the Lowman's involvement with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America. Also included are books written by Zel Lowman about scouting and the Presbyterian Church.

José Luis Viñas Papers

Abstract

The collection contains drawings, photographs, and posters featuring costumes designed by José Luis Viñas, a Spanish costume designer active in Las Vegas, Nevada, from 1960 to 2000. Viñas is best known for his costume designs for Vive les Girls (1962-1975) and Casino de Paris (1963-1982), both long-running shows at the Dunes Hotel and Casino, as well as for Siegfried and Roy's show at the Frontier Hotel in the mid-1980s. Viñas also did some costume designs for an unidentified show in Sun City, South Africa in the late 1970s and later a show called Circus Cabaret at the Lady Luck Casino Hotel in Downtown Las Vegas.
