Abstract

Oral history interview with Heidi Sarno Straus conducted by A. D. Hopkins on April 04, 1999 for the Las Vegas Review-Journal First 100 Oral History Project. In this interview, Straus discusses her personal history and the life of her father, Jay Sarno. She recalls living at Caesars Palace Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada and describes what it was like living in casinos with her family. Straus discusses the opening of Circus Circus Hotel and Casino and hosting parties in the hotel rooms as a teenager. Lastly, Straus talks about the changes in her fathers’ hotels in Las Vegas.

Oral history interview with Robert "Bob" Fulkerson conducted by Dennis McBride on March 27, 2007 for the Las Vegas Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Archives Oral History Project. In this interview, Fulkerson discusses his involvement in the Nevada for Constitutional Employment (NCE) organization and their 1993 efforts to repeal Nevada's sodomy law. Fulkerson describes how the gay community reacted and prepared for the 2002 voting season, specifically regarding question 2, which banned same-sex marriage in Nevada. Later, Fulkerson compares both legislative events. Lastly, Fulkerson discusses the future of the gay community in the state of Nevada.

He also talks about his family life, the state of his neighborhood throughout the years, and being hired by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

Oral history interview with Roscoe Wilkes conducted by Claytee D. White on March 19, 2009 for the Boyer Early Las Vegas Oral History Project. In this interview, Roscoe Wilkes discusses moving to Pioche, Nevada, being a PBX operation, working as a lead zinc miner, and teaching grade school. He also talks about enlisting into World War II, during which he was a prisoner of war in Romania. He then discusses enrolling in the University of Southern California School of Law, becoming a district attorney, and then a judge.

Gallagher also describes his membership in the Las Vegas, Nevada chapter of the Rotary Club and that organization's relationship with UNLV. He concludes the interview by drawing distinctions between Las Vegas and cities of the Pacific Northwest.
